PETITION FOR THE TEMPORARY IMPLEMENTATION OF MODULAR AND ONLINE CLASSES NATIONWIDE DUE TO THE RECENT SERIES OF EARTHQUAKES AND SAFETY CONCERNS
To:
The Honorable Secretary
Department of Education (DepEd Philippines)
DepEd Central Office, Pasig City, Philippines
Subject: Request for the Nationwide Implementation of Modular and Online Learning for the Safety of Students Amid Frequent Earthquakes
Dear Secretary,
Good day.
We, the undersigned concerned citizens, parents, and guardians from various parts of the Philippines, respectfully submit this petition to express our growing concern over the safety and welfare of students across the country due to the recent series of earthquakes that have been felt in different regions.
These continuous tremors have caused widespread anxiety and fear among parents, students, and school personnel. Many schools are located in areas identified as high-risk zones, particularly those near the West Valley Fault and other active fault lines. Given the unpredictable nature of earthquakes, it has become increasingly difficult for parents to feel secure about sending their children to school for face-to-face classes.
In light of these circumstances, we earnestly request the Department of Education to consider the temporary implementation of modular and online learning modalities nationwide until it is deemed safe for students and teachers to physically return to schools. This measure aims to prioritize safety without interrupting the students’ education.
We believe that this proactive step will not only prevent possible harm but also ease the anxiety of thousands of families who fear for their children’s safety. Education must continue, but not at the cost of the lives and well-being of our learners and educators.
We trust that the Department of Education, together with the national and local government units, will act with compassion, urgency, and prudence in addressing this serious concern.
Thank you for your understanding, consideration, and dedication to the safety and future of every Filipino child.
Respectfully yours,
A Parents
On behalf of concerned parents and citizens of the Republic of the Philippines
