𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞: Tanay, Rizal, PhilTechians showcased their skills in journalism as they participated in the District School Press Conference 2026, held at Ilaya Elementary School on August 15 and 22, 2026.

The two-day competition under Project LAMFARA—Beyond the Headlines, brought together student journalists from the Philippine Technological Institute of Science, Arts, and Trade Inc. (PhilTech), representing Pluma and Tinta, across various individual and group categories.

On August 22, 2026 the competition for day 2 opened with the remaining individual categories. Copy Reading and Headline Writing was represented by Saika Pangilinan of TINTA. In Column Writing, Divine Grace Sidon represented PLUMA while Jimuelle Santiago represented TINTA. Feature Writing was represented by Florence Rhey Anne Baltar of PLUMA and Jilliane Marmol of TINTA. For Science and Technology Writing, Steven Bendano represented PLUMA.

Broadcasting categories were also held on the same day. In TV Script Writing and Broadcasting, TINTA was represented by Brent Hernan Banjao, Rainmeil Batulat, Shakira Allaine Africa, John Gabriel Dilagan, Coleen Audrey Bautista, Stephany Lumenario, and Sophia Mishae Sanchez.

Meanwhile, Radio Script Writing and Broadcasting featured Nica Ella Soriano, Jacob Regalado, Gail Veridiano, Khia Melad, Alwy Delatina, Michaela Madriaga, Jam Keyzer Paclibare for PLUMA.
TINTA was represented by Jennica Cortez, Krizandrea Ocampo, Zoilo Matthew Canites, Iresh Gwen Pidlaoan, John Khaizzer Bellido, and Fredelyn Fontanos.

Before the awarding ceremony, the participants who competed during the first day on August 15 returned to Ilaya Elementary School to reunite with their fellow PhilTechians and take part in the closing activities.

The first-day individual categories were represented by Jillian Franco (PLUMA) and Janna Criscia Barsaga (TINTA) in Photojournalism, Nathalie Joy Betito (PLUMA) and King Rhenzo Banda (TINTA) in Editorial Cartooning, Kamila Grace Buerano (PLUMA) and Jhemyre Lazatin (TINTA) in Editorial Writing, and Michaela Alfonso (PLUMA) and Jeneveb Espacio (TINTA) in News Writing.

Meanwhile, the first-day Online Publishing teams also returned for the ceremony. PLUMA was represented by Dhuane Baello, Neil Sean John M. De Leon, Khatelyn Marcoleta, Liana Valentin, and Angel Romar Besoña. TINTA was represented by Marc Francis Oxales, Prince Zacarie Bermejo, Zakiera Jane Reyes, Zarlene Joy Naraja, and Alliah Mae Barnedo.

The two-day press conference concluded on August 22 with the awarding and closing ceremony, marking the end of the competition and recognizing the efforts of the participating student journalists.

Through their pens, papers, cameras, voices, and creativity, the PhilTechians once again put their journalistic skills to the test throughout the District School Press Conference (DSPC 2026).✒️✨📃

PHILTECH Student-Journalists Take on District Press Conference

The spotlight was on as student journalists from the Philippine Technological Institute of Science, Arts, and Trade Inc. (PHILTECH) joined young writers from different schools across the district for the annual District Schools Press Conference on Saturday, August 15, at Ilaya Elementary School.

Held under Project LAMPFARA – Beyond the Headlines, the conference aimed to help students improve their journalistic skills while encouraging responsible campus journalism.

The day started with an opening program attended by school heads, teachers, coaches, and participants. Speakers shared words of encouragement with the young journalists, reminding them to believe in their abilities, stay confident, and trust their pens.

After the opening program, PHILTECH students settled into their seats and listened closely to the lectures. They took notes, analyzed the information given by the speakers, and prepared themselves for the writing activities ahead.

Soon after the lecture, the participants went to their assigned rooms and faced the challenge of completing their articles within the one-hour time limit. With only a short amount of time to gather their thoughts and organize their ideas, the student journalists worked carefully to put their skills into practice.

When the hour was over, the PHILTECH participants submitted their finished works to their workshop facilitators.

“It was fun,” said Jhemyre Lazatin, one of the PHILTECH student journalists who took part in the conference.

Beyond the competition, the event gave PHILTECH students an opportunity to experience what it is like to write under pressure, learn from experienced speakers, and meet fellow student journalists from other schools.

As the first day came to an end, the students said their goodbyes to their classmates, coaches, teachers, and new acquaintances. They left the venue with more than just their written works, bringing home new experiences, lessons, and memories from a day spent trusting their pens.

Tanay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Equipped PhilTechians Through Awareness Seminar

The Tanay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) conducted an Earthquake Awareness Seminar, equipping students and school faculty with knowledge on disaster preparedness and emergency response at the Philippine Technological Institute of Science Arts and Trades (PhilTech) Annex 2 on Tuesday, August 4.

The speaker, Mr. Ronillo B. Hadap, began the lecture at 2:30 P.M. by discussing important facts on earthquakes, such as safety protocols and proper response to procedures.

Mr. Hadap opened the lecture by defining what an earthquake is. He then explained the difference between magnitude and intensity, including the various intensity stages. He also discussed "The Big One," an anticipated magnitude 7.2 earthquake that may be caused by the West Valley Fault.

Following this, Mr. Hadap outlined the four stages of conducting an earthquake drill, along with the phases involved. He informed the students about the importance of being knowledgeable to this information, and reminded them that panic will not do any good.

The seminar concluded at 3:34 P.M. Students returned to their classrooms to relay the information to their classmates in preparation for the drill.

Once the alarm rang, students immediately performed the mandatory "Duck, Cover and Hold" protocol. Students ducked under desks, grabbed items to cover their heads, and remained alert. Afterwards, the students headed to an open area within the school grounds, lined up according to their sections.

The Rescue Team then demonstrated various first aid procedures ad students observed. Once the drill was finished, the team escorted the students back to their classrooms.

Ingay sa Mikropono: Boses ng mga Kandidato

Sa bawat pagdagundong ng mikropono, kasabay na umaalingawngaw ang mga pangako, paninindigan, at pangarap ng mga kandidatong handang magsilbi. Sa gitna ng masiglang PSSG Miting de Avance ng PhilTech Tanay, hindi lamang tinig ng mga kandidato ang umalingawngaw sa loob ng Tanay Gymnasium —kundi maging ang pag-asang nais nilang ihatid sa bawat PhilTechian, isang panawagan para sa pagbabagong kanilang ipinapangako.

Napuno ng nakabibinging hiyawan, masisiglang palakpakan, at sigawan ng suporta ang buong gymnasium habang ipinakikilala ng mga partidong TARA at RYZZA ang kanilang mga plataporma, adbokasiya, at mga programang inihahain para sa kapakanan ng mga mag-aaral at ng buong pamayanan ng paaralan.

Hindi naging hadlang ang malakas na ulan upang mapatahimik ang diwa ng pagtitipon. Sa halip, lalo nitong pinatindi ang sigla ng mga dumalong PhilTechians na nanatiling nakikiisa at nakikinig sa mga kandidatong naglalatag ng kani-kanilang bisyon para sa pamumuno.

Bitbit ng TARA Partylist ang panawagang “Tapat na Aksyon para sa Responsableng Adhikain.” Binigyang-diin ni Oxales, kandidato sa pagkapangulo, na, “Ang pangarap ay mananatiling pangarap kapag walang tapat na aksyon.” Pinagtibay naman nina Ocampo at De Leon ang paninindigang ito sa pahayag na, “Ang tunay na taas ay nasa lideratong may prinsipyo,” bilang pagbibigay-diin sa pamumunong nakabatay sa integridad at pananagutan.

Samantala, inihatid ng RYZZA Partylist ang mensaheng nakasentro sa pagpapatuloy ng kanilang mga nasimulan at sa kakayahang maglingkod nang higit pa. Binigyang-diin ni Santiago, kandidato sa pagkapangulo, ang kanilang paninindigan sa pagsasabing, “Ano pa ba ang inyong hahanapin kung lahat ng hinahanap ninyo ay makikita ninyo sa amin? Walang pangakong napapako kay Santiago.” Isang pahayag na sinalubong ng malalakas na sigawan at palakpakan mula sa kanilang mga tagasuporta.

Hindi lamang sa paglalatag ng mga plataporma nasukat ang kahandaan ng mga kandidato. Sa isinagawang debate, hinarap nila ang mahahalagang usapin hinggil sa pamumuno, pananagutan, transparency, pananalapi, mga kasalukuyang isyu sa paaralan, at pagpapatuloy ng kanilang mga programang ipinangako. Sinagot din nila ang mga tanong, mungkahi, at hinaing ng mga mag-aaral, na nagbigay ng pagkakataong higit pang makilala ang kanilang kakayahan at paninindigan bilang mga inaasahang lider.

Sa pagtatapos ng Miting de Avance, hindi lamang mga plataporma ang naiwan sa isipan ng mga PhilTechians kundi ang hamon ng responsableng pagpili ng mga susunod na mamumuno. Sapagkat sa huli, ang tunay na liderato ay hindi nasusukat sa lakas ng tinig, kundi sa kakayahang isabuhay ang mga pangakong binibigkas at isulong ang mga pagbabagong inaasam ng bawat mag-aaral.

Who Will Lead Tomorrow?

On July 31, 2026, rain poured outside Tanay Gymnasium as thunder echoed across the sky. Inside, the voices of PhilTechians were even louder. Cheers and applause filled the venue as students gathered for the 2026 PSSG Miting de Avance. It was more than a campaign event. It was a stage where two aspiring student leaders shared their hopes and vision for the future of PhilTech.

The crowd first listened to Marc Francis P. Oxales of TARA Partylist. Standing before hundreds of students, he shared his message, “Pangarap ay mananatiling pangarap kung walang tapat na aksyon at adhikain.” He spoke about leadership built on honest action, responsibility, and service for every PhilTechian.

Soon after, Jimuelle C. Santiago of RYZZA Partylist took the stage and shared his vision. Looking at the students, he declared, “Ano pa bang hahanapin kung ang lahat ng inyong hinahanap ay nasa amin.” He spoke about the goals of his party and the changes they hoped to bring to the school community.

As the question-and-answer portion began, the loud cheers slowly turned into quiet attention. The candidates answered questions about leadership, student concerns, and their plans for the school. Through their responses, students had the chance to see not only their platforms but also the values behind them.

Standing on the same stage, the two candidates carried different ideas but shared the same purpose, to serve every PhilTechian. For a while, the gymnasium was no longer divided by party names. Instead, it became a place where students listened, reflected, and thought carefully about the future of their student government.

As the program came to an end, the rain slowly stopped, and the thunder faded away. The cheers inside the gym grew quieter, but the words spoken on stage remained in the minds of every PhilTechian. The Miting de Avance had ended, but the biggest decision was still ahead.
