Aiming to build a culture of proactive safety, student leaders from the College of Teacher Education and various departments at North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) gathered for the second day of intensive safety training held at the NEMSU Tandag Library, the event centered on the theme: "Resilient Campus 2026: Fire Safety, Earthquake Preparedness, and Rescue Response in Action" on Thursday, May 7.

The session opened with Pat. Joash Arias Espinoza, Assistant CAD PNCO, who served as both the opening and keynote speaker.

Pat. Espinoza delivered a comprehensive lecture on personal safety and anti-drug awareness where he highlighted "pressure" as a primary influence behind substance use, urging student leaders to remain vigilant and resilient against such social challenges.

As the second phase of the event shifted to practical application with a live fire simulation led by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tandag at the NEMSU Ground, facilitators executed real-life scenarios and demonstrated the proper use of fire extinguishers using the P.A.S.S. method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side-to-side.

The activity was spearheaded by Revelyn G. Enderes, MAELT, Head of the Office of Student Welfare and Development (OSWD) and attended by second-year BSED English CTE students.

The event marked the successful conclusion of Phase 1 of the training program, and this milestone serves as the beginning of a campus-wide initiative to ensure NEMSUans are fully prepared and proactive in the face of any emergency.

College of Teacher Education (CTE) Marivellea wrested the championship in the Laragway 2026 Battle of the Bands on April 30 at the NEMSU Grounds, effectively unseating the previous titleholders to claim the top spot in this yearโ€™s competition.

Performing during a heavy downpour and amidst muddy field conditions, Marivellea attained the victory after delivering a two-song set that included a rendition of "Tatay" by Otab Inalab followed by "Kalapastangan" by FitterKarma.

The winning CTE roster featured Linuel Lucas Tumanda, Rubielyn Ruilles Palacio, Reah Dumayas, Paul Tecson, Arjim Tuyor, Ephraim Pajo, and Carl Adrian Mendaรฑa, all of whom completed their performance despite the adverse weather conditions.

Following the final tabulation of results by the event officials, the College of Teacher Education was officially proclaimed the winner of the musical showdown, marking a historic achievement for the college.

Despite a blistering heat index that pushed both teams to their physical limits, Marivella of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) fell to the Vespyreon from College of Business and Management (CBM) in a hard-fought, straight-set volleyball match, 20-25, 20-25, 23-25.

In the opening set, CTE struggled to find a rhythm as unforced errors exacerbated by the stifling atmosphere allowed CBMโ€™s disciplined defense and transition play to capitalize early for a 20-25 lead.

Although CTE adjusted in the second set, utilizing their best net defense to block key CBM hits, the opposition's resilience and powerful cross-court attacks resulted in CTE again losing 20-25.

The third set transformed into a high-tension deadlock, with both teams trading aces and monster blocks in a battle of wills until CBM narrowly outlasted CTE in the final nail-biting stretch, 23-25.

Despite the loss and the punishing heat index, the CTE squad displayed immense character and proven mettle under pressure, demonstrating a resilient spirit that promises they will bounce back in future games.

Mylene Montenegro and Jr. E. Martinez secures the silver medal for the College of Teacher Education in lawn tennis mixed doubles at Telaje Tennis Court last tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Despite their struggles in keeping up with the rhythm and speed of their opponents, the duo continued to march on and achieve second place.

During the interview, Montenegro stated that there is more to the game than winning; a core aspect of playing a sport is having fun.

While the scoreboard favored their opponents, their refusal to back down even during the toughest rallies, earned them the silver medal for the College of Teacher Education.

Marivellea, College of Teacher Education (CTE) delivered a remarkable performance in the finals, clinching the 2nd place in women's Call of Duty: Mobile (CODM) during the Laragway 2026 held at NEMSU ICT Building on April 28.

CTE opened the finals with a solid Hardpoint match, racking up 200 points; however, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) edged them out with 250 points.

Momentum swung hard in round 2: Search and Destroy (SND), where CTE dominated 9-4, fueled by seamless team coordination and precise shot-calls.

Despite their SND dominance, CTEโ€™s momentum cease in Round 3: Control. While they rotated pushily to find an opening, CASโ€™s defensive shell secured the third round.

In the final round, Hardpoint was an intense showdown between the two opponents, CTE attempted to defend their score, stalling at 173 points; however, CAS held firm at 250, clinching the series 3-1.

This stage finish is a big comeback for Marivellea, showing they have returned to their best after being disqualified in last year's competition.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) womenโ€™s division delivered a masterclass on the board by securing a perfect eight match points to claim gold at the Laragway 2026 Chess competition held April 27 at the NEMSU new library.

The "Marivellea Queens" outmaneuvered rival departments in every round to finish the tournament with a flawless record, utilizing aggressive traps to corner their opponentsโ€™ kings.

This powerhouse roster featured Allana Balmis, Evelyn Deocades, Angel Shen Campios, and Wenelyn Curada, each of whom secured vital victories to keep the departmentโ€™s undefeated streak alive.

โ€œDuring the game, we felt very happy and at the same time nervous,โ€ admitted Team Captain Evelyn Deocades, who kept encouraging her teammates to focus and maintain calmness during the game.

Deocades noted that their strategy relied on a tactical puzzle they learned during their training to help them easily remember the tactics they would employ in the actual game.

Following their golden performance, Deocades confirmed their intention to return and defend the title in the next Laragway competition.

With their Laragway title secured and their reputation as NEMSUโ€™s dominant force solidified, the Marivellea Queens now turn their sights toward conquering the regionโ€™s elite at the upcoming Local Mast competition.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) dominated the Laragway 2026 storytelling competition, claiming both the championship title and second place honors at the NEMSU Library, April 28.

Trixy Vicentillo captured the gold after performing Carlos Bulosanโ€™s "My Brother Goes to Court," while Mitch Hinayon secured the silver with the piece "My Brotherโ€™s Peculiar Chicken."

In her victory, Vicentillo cited personal hurdles during the preparation phase as her greatest challenge.

"The most challenging part of preparing the story [was] myself," Vicentillo said. "Fortunately, with God's help, I know He always [has a] better plan than ours."
