Aiming to build a culture of proactive safety, student leaders from the College of Teacher Education and various departments at North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) gathered for the second day of intensive safety training held at the NEMSU Tandag Library, the event centered on the theme: "Resilient Campus 2026: Fire Safety, Earthquake Preparedness, and Rescue Response in Action" on Thursday, May 7.
The session opened with Pat. Joash Arias Espinoza, Assistant CAD PNCO, who served as both the opening and keynote speaker.
Pat. Espinoza delivered a comprehensive lecture on personal safety and anti-drug awareness where he highlighted "pressure" as a primary influence behind substance use, urging student leaders to remain vigilant and resilient against such social challenges.
As the second phase of the event shifted to practical application with a live fire simulation led by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Tandag at the NEMSU Ground, facilitators executed real-life scenarios and demonstrated the proper use of fire extinguishers using the P.A.S.S. method: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side-to-side.
The activity was spearheaded by Revelyn G. Enderes, MAELT, Head of the Office of Student Welfare and Development (OSWD) and attended by second-year BSED English CTE students.
The event marked the successful conclusion of Phase 1 of the training program, and this milestone serves as the beginning of a campus-wide initiative to ensure NEMSUans are fully prepared and proactive in the face of any emergency.
