Given the risks associated with statins, both scientists and the public are searching for alternatives to support healthy cholesterol levels. A clinical study reported that ingesting capsules containing 140 mg (about 3 drops) of lemongrass essential oil improved cholesterol profiles in 36% of trial participants. The researchers hypothesized that the decrease was the result of the oil suppressing an enzymatic pathway involved in cholesterol creation.
