Loud motorcycle mufflers in Dumaguete City may soon be addressed through a barangay-level reporting system aimed at improving enforcement and community coordination.
City Councilor Jovencio Tan Jr. disclosed in a local media interview that he plans to convene a Liga ng mga Barangay meeting next month to discuss strategies for handling complaints about excessive motorcycle noise. Under the proposal, residents who have concerns about loud mufflers in their neighborhoods may report the matter directly to their respective barangays for appropriate action.
Tan said he has already begun taking proactive steps in his own barangay by responding to complaints from residents and personally reminding motorcycle owners to replace illegal mufflers within a given period.
He noted that loud mufflers disturb residents, particularly at night, and emphasized that the use of modified mufflers that exceed allowable noise levels is prohibited. He added that refusal to comply may lead to possible action from law enforcement authorities, including the Highway Patrol Group.
Tan encouraged barangay officials to strengthen coordination with communities to address the issue effectively at the local level.
