Prayer is an expression of our dependence on God. It’s an act that we cannot rely on our own strength, wisdom, or understanding.

When we pray, we are humbly acknowledging that God is in control. Even when situations seem uncertain or beyond our understanding, prayer reminds us that nothing is beyond God's power and authority.

Prayer builds confidence, not because we know what will happen next, but because we know the One who holds our future. We become confident that God will guide us.

Prayer makes us more aware of God's presence in our lives. Often times, we try to solve problems with our own ability before turning to God. Instead, prayer should be our first response. Before making decisions, starting a task, entering a conversation, or facing a challenge, we should seek first the wisdom that comes from God.

Consulting God before acting demonstrates our trust in Him and invites Jesus into every situation.

Let us develop the habit of prayer. Before doing anything, pray. Before speaking, pray. Before deciding, pray. Before responding, pray. Before serving, pray. In everything we do, pray.

The more we pray, the more alert we become, even in the smallest areas of our lives. Prayer strengthens us to resist temptation, guards our hearts from compromise, and directs us.

When we are rooted in God’s love, unforgiveness no longer has power over us. Bitterness keeps us chained to pain, while forgiveness brings freedom, healing, and peace.

A powerful example of this truth is found in the story of the woman caught in adultery. The religious leaders brought her before Jesus, prepared to condemn her. Before responding, Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground. He then said, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." One by one, her accusers left because they recognized that they were also sinners. Rather than condemning the woman, Jesus extended mercy and instructed her to leave her life of sin.

This passage tells the importance of responding with wisdom rather than reacting immediately out of emotion. Taking time to pause, reflect, and seek God's guidance helps prevent actions that may only deepen the pain. Instead of allowing hurt to produce more hurt, reflection allows God's truth to shape the response. Looking inward before judging others also reminds everyone of the grace that has been received from God.

We must not depend on our feelings, because emotions change. Instead, it should be based on the Word of God, which calls believers to forgive as Jesus Christ forgave us.

Genuine forgiveness is demonstrated by choosing not to seek revenge, refusing to harbor hatred, and treating others with mercy and compassion. It is a process that requires humility, patience, and surrender to God.

A heart rooted in God's love is able to overcome resentment, extend grace to others, and experience the freedom that comes from living according to His Word.

Prayer before the battle.

The battles we face in the spirit cannot be overcome by human strength alone. No amount of power, intelligence, or ability is enough to win battles that are spiritual in nature.

The very things we pray for often become the areas where we experience the greatest opposition. Whether it is your family, your calling, your studies, your ministry, your career, or your personal, the enemy seeks to discourage and distract us. That is why we must prepare ourselves spiritually before the battle comes.

Look at the life of Daniel, even when a decree was made against praying, he remained faithful and continued to pray three times a day. Before he was ever thrown into the lions' den, he had already built a life filled with prayer. He had already prepared himself spiritually before the trial came. His victory did not begin in the lions' den, it began on his knees.

Even Jesus, the Son of God, made prayer His priority. Before dawn, while it was still dark, He would withdraw to pray. Before every major moment of ministry, before facing the cross, and in the midst of every challenge, He sought the Father in prayer. If Jesus depended on prayer, how much more do we?

Prayer is not simply something we do when we are in trouble. It is where battles are fought before they are ever seen. Many victories are won in private long before they become visible in public.

So whatever battle you are facing today, pray. Pray before the battle. Pray in the middle of the battle. Pray after the victory. Prayer is not our last choice, it is our first priority.

The battle is not won by the strongest person—it is won by the one who faithfully kneels before God Almighty.

A Forgiving Heart

Forgiveness does not make us forget the past. The memories may remain, but through God's grace, the hidden pain and bitterness no longer have to rule our hearts. What once wounded us no longer has the power to define us when we choose to forgive.

In the Bible, when Peter asked Jesus, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?" Jesus replied, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." Jesus was not setting a numerical limit, He was teaching that forgiveness should become a way of life for those who follow Him.

We are called to have hearts that are always willing to forgive, just as God continually forgives us.

Forgiveness does not mean that we approve of what was done or tolerate repeated wrongdoing. Rather, forgiveness is choosing to release ourselves from the poison of unforgiveness—a poison that slowly grows into resentment, anger, and bitterness. Holding on to offense often harms our own hearts more than it harms the person who hurted us.

Only the Lord Jesus can truly cleanse the deepest wounds within us. We cannot remove bitterness by our own strength. It is through the work of the Holy Spirit that our hearts are healed, restored, and transformed.

As we surrender our pain to Christ, He replaces our bitterness with His peace, our anger with His love, and our brokenness with His grace.

Forgiveness may not erase the experience itself, but it gives us the freedom to move forward instead of remaining trapped in the pain of the past. It is not forgetting what happened—it is choosing not to let what happened control our future.

When we forgive, we are not only extending grace to others, we are allowing God's healing grace to transform our own hearts.

There may be battles in your family, career, academics, or especially within your heart and mind. Remember, you are not alone. Many people are experiencing the same struggles you face today, and many others have overcome them by God's grace.

But as for you, don't just endure them, bring them to God in prayer. Prayer is not an escape from the battle, it is where God strengthens you to face it.

Remember Jesus, As the time of His suffering drew near, He prayed to the Father, saying, "Take this cup from Me." Yet He did not stop there. He surrendered completely, praying, "Not My will, but Yours be done." In that moment, Jesus chose obedience over comfort and God's will over His own. What appeared to be the darkest moment became the greatest victory in history.

Because Jesus surrendered in prayer, He accomplished the work of salvation for all of us—for you and for me.

Don't fight it alone. Bring it before God.

Your circumstances may not change immediately, but prayer changes your heart, aligns your will with God's, and gives you the strength to stand firm. The battle may be visible, but the victory is won in prayer.

Prayer aligns our hearts with His will

Remember Queen Esther. When the lives of her fellow Jews were in danger, she didn't allow fear to make her first decision. Before approaching the king, she first approached God. She called for prayer and fasting because she knows that victory is found in God's presence.

Queen Esther did not let her situation define her response. She didn't rely on her own wisdom, influence, or ability. She depended on God. And because she humbled herself before Him, God's favor went before her.

So whatever battle you're facing today—whether it's fear, sickness, financial struggles, family problems, or academics, don't stop praying. Don't give up just because you don't see the results.

Some battles are not won by strength or human effort. Some victories are only experienced by those who choose to kneel before they stand.

The heavier the burden, the closer you should draw to God.

Prayer is not our last option—it is our first response.
