Mt. Arayat holds immense cultural and mythological significance among the Kapampangan people.
Aring Sinukuan / Apung Sinukuan: It is traditionally considered the sacred home of the Kapampangan deity or powerful sorcerer named Apung/Aring Sinukuan (meaning "He to whom others have surrendered"). He is often associated with the sun, war, and death in ancient folklore, and is said to be the mountain's protector.
Mariang Sinukuan: During the Spanish colonial period, the legend was often adapted, and Apung Sinukuan was feminized into Mariang Sinukuan—a beautiful diwata (fairy or mountain goddess), similar to Maria Makiling of Laguna. She is believed to be the guardian of the mountain's bounty, providing fruits and resources to the good people but punishing the greedy.
