LOOK: NATIONAL UNIVERSITY’S FIRST CAMPUS IN MINDANAO TO OPEN SOON INSIDE SM CITY DAVAO EXPANSION

Construction is in full swing for the much-awaited National University – Davao campus, set to open soon as part of the 7-story expansion of SM City Davao. This marks NU’s first-ever campus in Mindanao.

The new building will feature:
• 2 levels for mall expansion
• 2 levels of parking
• 3 levels dedicated to NU-Davao

📍 The NU-Davao logo is now visibly installed on-site, confirming its near completion. Once finished, SM City Davao will become the largest SM mall in Mindanao with a total gross floor area of 285,820.20 sqm.

LOOK: PANAY-GUIMARAS-NEGROS BRIDGE DESIGN NOW 84% COMPLETE!

Major progress alert! The ₱189-billion Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) Bridge is one step closer to reality, with its engineering design now 84.10% complete, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

🔹 Segment A (Panay to Guimaras): 93.60%
🔹 Segment B (Guimaras to Negros): 77.60%

This 32-kilometer bridge system, under the “Build Better More” program, will slash ferry travel time from 3–4 hours to under an hour by land. Construction of Segment A kicks off in 2026.

Part of the government’s Mega-Bridge Program, the PGN Bridge is expected to boost regional connectivity, fuel economic growth, and attract heavy investments with its high EIRR of 20.81%.

A man in China has gone viral for being dubbed the “most educated food delivery worker”, having earned degrees from Oxford, Tsinghua, Peking University, and more—yet now works as a rider for Meituan in Beijing.

Ding Yuanzhao, 39, once held a PhD in biology, a master’s in biodiversity, and completed postdoctoral work at NUS, but after failing to land a job despite over 10 interviews, he turned to food delivery to support his family. “It’s not a bad job. If you work hard, you can earn a decent living,” Ding said on social media.

His story—shared just after China’s annual gaokao exam—has reignited public debate over the devaluation of academic degrees amid a weak job market and rising youth unemployment, which hit 14.9% in May 2025.

Some netizens lamented, “So what’s the point of education?” while others praised Ding’s perseverance and humility.

The Ombudsman has dismissed the graft complaint filed against Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong in connection with certain DPWH-funded infrastructure projects.

The case was junked for lack of merit, clearing Magalong of allegations related to the implementation of said projects.

LOOK: OVER 100 FAKE UST WEBPAGES REDIRECT USERS TO ONLINE GAMBLING SITES

More than 100 webpages using the official UST domain (ust.edu.ph) have been found redirecting users to e-sabong, online casinos, and gambling platforms, a Varsitarian investigation revealed.

The compromised links, some posing as pages under the UST Admissions Office and Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, appeared in Google search results with titles like “legal betting sites” and “online gambling real money.” Clicking them leads to gambling platforms like AAJILI.

UST’s Communications Bureau Director Philippe Hernandez said they are working with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) to resolve the issue.

This is the second major cyberattack on UST and other .edu.ph domains this year, following a denial-of-service (DoS) attack last January that hit several universities including UP, Letran, PUP, and DLSU.

LOOK: MARCOS VETOES BILL TO CONVERT PUP INTO NATIONAL POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has vetoed the bill that would have elevated the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) to National Polytechnic University (NPU) status.

According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, PUP failed to complete a mandatory assessment in 2016, which is required for national university recognition. Marcos, however, expressed hope that PUP may still achieve the status once it meets all qualifications.

The proposed upgrade had sparked debate within the university over fears of commercialization, though PUP has clarified that it would not lead to tuition hikes, citing protection under the Free Tuition Law.

LOOK: METRO MANILA RENTS DROP—BAY AREA LEADS SLUMP AMID POGO EXIT

Rental rates in Metro Manila’s central business districts are falling, with Pasay’s Bay Area—once a POGO hotspot—posting the biggest decline, according to Leechiu Property Consultants.

▶️ Bay Area rents plunged 6% in Q2 to ₱856/sqm, now at half their pre-pandemic value.
▶️ Makati, BGC, and Ortigas rents also dropped by 2–4%, while Alabang saw a slight uptick.
▶️ Condo sales rose 2%, but rent recovery remains sluggish.

Developers are pushing flexible terms and rent-to-own deals for units priced between ₱9M to ₱35M.
