“LIKE, HELLO?!” CLAUDINE CO DRAWS FURY OVER ‘WALA KAMING UTANG NA LOOB’ COMMENT

Claudine Julia Monique Co — daughter of Christopher Co of Hi-Tone Construction (one of the Top 15 DPWH flood control contractors) and niece of Zaldy Co of Sunwest Group — is under fire after dismissing critics questioning her lavish lifestyle.

👉 In a viral statement, the lifestyle vlogger-turned-controversial figure declared:
“LIKE, hello? Wala kaming utang na loob sa mga Pilipino, okay? This is not from taxpayers’ money. The government literally paid us for the service our business provided. Gets?”

Her remarks triggered outrage, with netizens pointing out that government payments come from taxpayers’ money.

THE DAY THE WORLD CRIED: PRINCESS DIANA’S TRAGIC DEATH

On August 31, 1997, tragedy struck in Paris. Princess Diana, beloved globally as the “People’s Princess,” died in a horrific car crash inside the Pont de l’Alma tunnel while her limousine tried to escape relentless paparazzi.

With her was Egyptian film producer Dodi al-Fayed, who also perished. Their chauffeur, driving at high speed, lost control as photographers pursued them on motorbikes. Diana was only 36 years old.

‘SAGOT NA NI CONG’: LEGARDA LEVISTE EXPOSES SUBSTANDARD DPWH FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS IN BATANGAS

Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste is doubling down on calls for a technical audit of DPWH flood control projects, after uncovering alarming discrepancies in multi-billion peso infrastructure works in his district.

🔎 Key Findings from Leviste’s Audit:
• Binambang River, Balayan (₱1B projects): Sheet piles measured 3.9 to 5.5 meters instead of the required 15 meters. DPWH is now replacing these at the contractor’s expense.
• Pansipit River, Lemery (₱1B projects): Sheet piles measured 6.1 to 9.1 meters instead of the required 12 meters. After the audit, contractors removed the piles from the site. The LGU said it was not even informed about the project and no building permit was issued.
• Diokno Highway, Calaca: A recently widened segment collapsed during a typhoon. DPWH initially blamed the storm and asked for more funds, but later admitted fault and is now making repairs at the contractor’s expense.

Leviste — the youngest self-made billionaire-turned-lawmaker — personally hired engineers and consultants to inspect projects, stressing that taxpayers deserve full accountability.

This comes just days after Leviste rejected a multi-million peso bribe from a district engineer and had him arrested in a police entrapment operation.

“Beyond repairing damaged or substandard projects and re-assigning personnel, I ask DPWH leadership to help us investigate these anomalies so they won’t happen again,” Leviste said.

The lawmaker vowed that his office, together with LGUs, will continue to demand transparency — proving his fight is not just against bribery, but for ensuring Filipinos truly get their money’s worth in infrastructure.

CHINA ISSUES TRAVEL ALERT FOR CITIZENS IN THE PHILIPPINES

The Chinese Embassy in Manila has warned its nationals to be on high alert following reports of repeated crimes targeting Chinese citizens in the country.

📌 In a notice dated August 30, Beijing urged Chinese nationals in the Philippines — as well as those planning to travel — to conduct risk assessments, strengthen self-protection, and immediately contact local police or consulates in case of emergencies.

This comes after a similar advisory was earlier released for Chinese students planning to study in the Philippines, reflecting rising security concerns.

The embassy did not specify particular incidents but stressed the importance of vigilance and safety precautions.

BONOAN OUT, DIZON IN: MARCOS SHAKES UP DPWH AMID FLOOD CONTROL SCANDALS

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignation of DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, effective September 1, as corruption allegations engulf the agency’s multibillion-peso flood control projects.

In his letter, Bonoan vowed support for the administration’s push for “accountability, transparency, and reform”, but admitted it was painful to step down as anomalies surfaced under his watch.

📌 Vince Dizon, current Transportation Secretary, has been named as the new DPWH chief. Marcos directed him to launch a full organizational sweep and ensure public funds are spent only on infrastructure that protects Filipinos.

📌 At the DOTR, Undersecretary Giovanni Lopez will take over as acting secretary to sustain modernization programs in rail, aviation, and maritime.

📌 The President also ordered the creation of an independent body to probe DPWH flood control anomalies, tasked to review contracts, trace irregularities, and recommend sanctions.

“These decisions reflect the administration’s firm resolve to clean up corruption, strengthen institutions, and deliver honest and effective public service under Bagong Pilipinas,” Malacañang said.

P900-M FLOOD CONTROL DEALS WON BY CHILDREN OF PAMPANGA REP D**G GONZALES

From 2023 to 2024, while former Pampanga 3rd District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. was still in office, his children’s construction firm secured nearly ₱900 million worth of DPWH flood control projects in Pampanga.

📌 Records show that A.D. Gonzales Jr. Construction and Trading Company Inc., named after the lawmaker himself, bagged four flood control contracts during this period. At the time, 98% of the company was owned by Gonzales’ three children—one of whom was already a sitting local official.

Legal experts point out that while the Constitution and procurement laws prohibit conflict of interest for public officials, there are no explicit safeguards stopping firms owned by immediate family members from winning government contracts. Still, budget watchdogs flagged this situation as highly questionable.

Gonzales, a civil engineer by profession, has been a five-term congressman and previously served as House Deputy Speaker under Speaker Martin Romualdez, who counts him as a close ally.

This revelation adds to the growing scrutiny of DPWH’s flood control budget, a sector already plagued by allegations of “ghost projects” and contractor favoritism.

JUST IN: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has officially accepted the resignation of DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, effective September 1, 2025.

According to PCO Secretary Dave Gomez, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon has been appointed as the new head of DPWH. “Secretary Dizon has been tasked to carry out a full organizational sweep of the Department and ensure that public funds are directed solely to infrastructure projects that genuinely protect and benefit the Filipino people,” the Palace statement said.

Meanwhile, DOTr Undersecretary Giovanni Z. Lopez will step in as acting secretary of the transport department.

President Marcos Jr. has also created an independent Commission to Investigate Flood Control Anomalies, mandated to conduct a thorough review of projects, uncover irregularities, and recommend accountability measures to restore public trust in infrastructure spending.

“These decisions reflect the administration’s strong resolve to stamp out corruption, reinforce institutions, and deliver honest, effective public service under Bagong Pilipinas,” the statement concluded.
