NEWS UPDATE | SLSU Tayabas Holds Technical Budget Hearing for FY 2027
Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) Tayabas Campus conducted its Technical Budget Hearing (TBH) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2027, bringing together campus officials, planners, and sector representatives to review accomplishments, assess current performance, and discuss proposed programs and projects that will guide the campus’ future development.
The activity commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Arvin N. Natividad, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, who emphasized the importance of strategic planning and evidence-based budgeting in ensuring the effective delivery of academic, research, extension, and administrative services.
Following this, Asst. Prof. Jed Frank S. Marqueses presented the background and rationale of the Technical Budget Hearing, highlighting its role in aligning campus initiatives with institutional goals and national development priorities. The Planning Office then presented the campus targets for 2026, outlining key performance indicators and expected outcomes across various functional areas.
A significant portion of the program focused on the presentation of FY 2025 accomplishments by Campus Director Reymar A. Ortega. During his report, he highlighted the campus’ notable achievements in instruction, research, extension, and community engagement. Among the major accomplishments cited were the active participation and recognition of the campus in the Quezon Agricultural Research Forum, the successful conduct and involvement in the 2nd Quezon Coffee Summit, and the implementation of initiatives under the Young Farmers Challenge Program, which strengthened partnerships with local stakeholders and supported agricultural innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Campus Director also underscored the growing research culture of SLSU Tayabas through its research publications and faculty research engagement activities, which contributed to knowledge generation and the dissemination of research outputs. These efforts reflect the campus’ commitment to advancing scholarly work and addressing community and industry needs through research-based solutions.
In discussing institutional performance, the campus achieved an OPCR rating of 4.61 for 2025, demonstrating a high level of accomplishment across strategic, core, and support functions. He also presented key observations, including the need to strengthen stakeholder participation in curriculum review processes, improve faculty engagement in research activities, and further enhance graduate employability and budget utilization.
The status of proposals presented during the previous Technical Budget Hearing was likewise reported, including the ongoing development of two new academic programs: the Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Management (BSAM) and the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE). According to the Campus Director Reymar A. Ortega, both programs are currently undergoing feasibility studies and stakeholder consultations to ensure their relevance and sustainability.
The hearing also featured the presentation of additional proposed Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs) for FY 2027 and beyond by the Campus Director and sector representatives. These proposals aim to strengthen academic excellence, research productivity, extension services, infrastructure development, and student support programs.
The activity concluded with closing remarks, reaffirming the university’s commitment to transparent planning, responsible resource allocation, and continuous improvement in pursuit of quality education and sustainable campus development. Through the Technical Budget Hearing, SLSU Tayabas continues to align its priorities with institutional goals while responding to the evolving needs of its stakeholders and the communities it serves.
