Love pesto, soups, or fresh garden salads?
Hey Greenie! You can grow your own Sweet Basil and enjoy harvesting fresh, fragrant foliage right from your garden!
Whether in cups, pots, or directly in the ground,
Sweet Basil thrives—growing fuller, lusher, all year round!
Things to know in growing Sweet Basil:
The tropical climate is ideal for Sweet Basil. You can grow it any time of the year, especially with well-draining soil, regular watering, and enough sunlight (4–6 hours daily).
It can be grown in pots, containers, or directly in the ground. With regular harvesting (pruning), Sweet Basil will stay bushy and productive.
Propagating Sweet Basil will give you more plants - which means more harvest.
Here's how to easily propagate Sweet Basil from cuttings:
1. Place the cuttings in a vase or jar, with 2–3 inches of the stem base submerged in water.
2. Keep the container under bright, indirect or filtered light—avoid direct sun, which can damage tender cuttings.
3. Let them sit until healthy roots develop.
4. Once rooted, transplant them into a container, garden bed, or any permanent growing space you prefer.
Quick Care Tip:
Sweet Basil can get stressed during excessively rainy or humid months, so ensure:
- Good drainage to avoid root rot
- Air circulation around the plants
- Consider moving potted basil to a sheltered spot during heavy rains
