Why the silence?

Among our national politicians and government officials in the last six years--- from presidents to vice presidents to senators, and let's include department secretaries---how many of them have mentioned the name of Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto? How often do you hear them say his name? Rarely. Bihirang-bihira.

Vico Sotto has been Pasig Mayor since June 30, 2019. Since then, he has saved the city Php 1 Billion per year while at the same time, completing projects left and right. How?

Through transparent bidding of projects.
Through honest and efficient spending of funds.
By getting rid of questionable and dubious transactions in his turf.

Vico Sotto has been consistently and openly reporting financial matters to his constituents.

In 2021, the US State Department named Vico Sotto as one of world's Anti-Corruption Heroes. What an honor! But it's a rare honor given to a Filipino politician.

But again, going back to my question.

Why is his name rarely mentioned by popular politicians?

Because his honesty makes them uncomfortable.
Because his transparency exposes their secrets.
Because his integrity makes apparent their lack of it.

BECAUSE THEY FEAR COMPARISON.

People say he should be the president in the (distant) future. (At present, he's still too young to run in the next presidential elections). But this is my fear: he may never become our president. He won't get enough support from national and local politicians. This support is critical to win a presidential race. LGUs won't back him up. (For example, putting him at a disadvantage by giving him the ugliest venue for his campaign event) Many people in the government don't want a president who will look into their SALNs, verify transactions, and check their lifestyle. Many of us don't want that. But who knows what the future holds?

I hope Vico Sotto doesn't get contaminated by the corrupt system he is fighting from within.

10 years na akong politiko pero wala pa rin malaking "makinarya" para sa mabilisang pagkabit ng mga poster at iba pa. Bakit? Choice po ito.

I WANT TO DO MY PART IN BREAKING THE CYCLE OF "MONEY POLITICS".

"Money Politics", kung saan gumagastos ng sobrang laki ang mga politiko para manalo – alam na naman natin kung ano ang kasunod nun.

Ang pinaka obvious na naidudulot nito ay korapsyon. Pero hindi lang ito ang problema... sa malaking gastusan, maraming matitino/magagaling na kandidato na hindi nabibigyan ng pagkakataon.

Kailangan makarating tayo sa punto na ang "best of the best" ang nauupo sa posisyon. Kung ganoon, siguradong aangat ang kalidad ng pamahalaan... gaganda ang mga tulong at serbisyo nito para sa ating lahat... hindi na tayo mababaon sa politika at utang na loob... maitataguyod natin ang isang gobyernong maayos at tunay na para sa tao.

Marami pa akong gustong sabihin tungkol dito, pero sa susunod na po ako sasali sa essay-writing contest 😅
