VESians joins 2nd Quarter NSED

VELASCO, Tayum, Abra – Learners, teachers and parents of Velasco Elementary School actively participated in the 2nd Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) to strengthen disaster preparedness and promote safety awareness among the school community.

During the drill, pupils and teachers practiced the proper "Duck, Cover, and Hold" procedure and orderly evacuation. Participants wore yellow safety helmets provided through the school's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) program, ensuring added protection and highlighting the importance of preparedness during emergencies.

The activity successfully reinforced earthquake safety protocols and demonstrated the school's commitment to creating a safe and disaster-resilient learning environment for all.

SPTA Assembly orients parents on New School Policies

VELASCO, Tayum, Abra — Parents, guardians, teachers, and school officials gathered for the 1st School Parents-Teachers Association Assembly and Parents’ Orientation for School Year 2026–2027. The activity aimed to strengthen the partnership between the school and parents and to provide important updates on policies and programs that will guide learners throughout the school year.

During the assembly, teachers discussed key Department of Education policies, including the implementation of the Three-Term Calendar, Flexible Learning Program, Learning Continuity in Emergencies, Classroom Assessment and Grading System, Child Protection Policy, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, and other learner development programs. Parents were also informed about school initiatives such as sports development, Gulayan sa Paaralan, Barkada Kontra Droga, and the guidelines on mobile phone use in schools.

The orientation served as a valuable opportunity for parents to better understand their roles in supporting their children's education. School officials expressed their appreciation for the active participation of parents and encouraged continued cooperation to ensure a productive, safe, and successful school year for all learners.

VESians begin SY 2026–2027 with excitement and enthusiam

The School Year 2026–2027 officially opened at Velasco Elementary School on June 8 as learners, teachers, and parents gathered for the first day of classes filled with excitement and anticipation. The day began with a flag ceremony, where the school community participated in the singing of the national anthem, recitation of patriotic pledges, and welcome messages from Sir Frederico Antonio B. Dumlao, school head,, marking the start of another year of learning and growth.

Following the ceremony, learners proceeded to their classrooms for the Opening Block activities under the school's trimester system. This week is dedicated to orientation sessions, classroom familiarization, and discussions of school policies and expectations and BOSY assessments. Through interactive activities and warm classroom welcomes, learners were able to reconnect with friends, meet new classmates, and prepare for a productive and successful school year ahead.

ARAL Summer Reading Program culminates with Learners' Success

Velasco Elementary School successfully held the Culminating Activity of the ARAL Summer Reading Program, celebrating the hard work and achievements of participating learners. The event highlighted the importance of reading and recognized the efforts of pupils who actively joined the summer tutorial sessions designed to strengthen their literacy skills.

After weeks of engaging reading activities and personalized instruction, the tutees showed remarkable improvement in their reading abilities, confidence, and comprehension. Parents and teachers expressed their appreciation for the progress demonstrated by the learners during the program.

The success of the ARAL Summer Reading Program was made possible through the dedication and commitment of ARAL Tutor Mam Micah Jane Tagura, who patiently guided and encouraged the learners throughout the summer. Her unwavering support helped the pupils develop a love for reading and prepared them for a more successful school year ahead.
