The Mediator is currently in deep sadness and mourning upon the passing of an invaluable publication senior, mentor, and friend, Ronhel Brabanzo.

Manong Ronhel was an active member of the publication during his time, rendering service to the college and imparting his talent to the junior staffers through mentorship. He was a breath of fresh air in the publication.

Our shared joy and successes will never be forgotten. You may be gone but your life will always be remembered.

WVSU College of Communication Journalism Division conducted its annual qualification assessment of the applicants for the BA Journalism program of the university at the COC Building on Friday, June 20.

Nearly 70 aspiring journalists went through a three-staged evaluation process which includes written examination, oral test, and panel interview. This comprehensive assessment aims to select the most qualified applicants for the limited 30 slots in the program.

In an interview, Prof. Rica Marcet Funtecha, a Journalism faculty member and one of the panelists, described the day’s activities as a rigorous but essential part of shaping future journalists.

"They had to undergo a written test to evaluate their knowledge on campus journalism; an oral test to assess their communication and presentation abilities and a panel interview to gauge their passion and critical thinking if they are fit for the program," Prof. Funtecha shared.

She also emphasized the qualities the division is looking for in successful applicants.

"To our incoming freshmen, we expect creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for effective communication. We can only hope that our aspiring journalists would commit to telling stories that are truthful and embodies the values of College of Communication in West Visayas State University," she added.

The said interview and performance test are a key component of the college's selective admission process, aimed at admitting the most qualified students to the program.

Out of the 68 applicants who completed the assessment, only 30 will be accepted into the program. Results are expected to be released within one to two weeks.
