Did You Know? - Vagrant Story (2000)

Square released Vagrant Story late in the PS1’s life, and it became one of the most unique RPGs on the system. With its māturę story, cinematic style, and deep combat mechanics, it stood apart from anything else of its era.

🗡️ Weapon Mastery: Instead of sticking with one sword or axe, players constantly built, fused, and customized weapons. Each enemy had resistances, so the right blade could mean victory or defeat.

🏰 One Massive Dungeon: The game took place almost entirely within the ruined city of Lea Monde. Its interconnected design gave it a dark, almost “Metroidvania” feel.

🎭 Māturę Storytelling: You played as Ashley Riot, a Riskbreaker caught in a web of political intrigue, cults, and personal demons. The narrative was darker and more complex than most RPGs of the time.

🎶 Atmospheric Soundtrack: Hitoshi Sakimoto’s haunting score amplified the tension and mystery, cementing the game’s gothic tone.

Vagrant Story didn’t need sequels or spin-offs to be remembered—it became a cult classic on its own, praised for its ambition and depth as one of the PS1’s boldest RPG experiments.

Tactics Advance was out 22 years ago (2003)!📚 A group of friends are isekai'd into the realm of Ivalice and face the price of living in fantasy. With great gameplay and an infamous law system– it's no wonder why the people wish for more FF Tactics.
