Tuba Placed Under State of Calamity Following Successive Typhoons, Habagat
In a special session held on July 31, 2025, the Sangguniang Bayan of Tuba led by Municipal Vice Mayor Maria L. Carantes, declared the entire municipality under a State of Calamity, following the recommendation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC).
The declaration was prompted by the findings presented during the MDRRMC emergency meeting earlier that day, where the extent of damages from Typhoons Crising, Dante, and Emong, compounded by the enhanced southwest monsoon or Habagat, was reported.
According to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO), a total of 397 individuals or 105 families were affected across Tuba’s 13 barangays. Housing assessments recorded 32 partially damaged houses and 5 totally damaged. The Municipal Agriculture Office estimated initial agricultural and livelihood losses at ₱22.8 million, covering crops, farm structures, irrigation systems, and livestock. Meanwhile, the Municipal Engineering Office noted that several infrastructure projects were damaged, with assessments still ongoing.
Particularly hard hit was Kennon Road, especially the tunnel section in Camp 6, disrupting access to and from barangays including Ansagan, Camp One, Tabaan Sur, Camp 3, Twin Peaks, and Camp 4. Residents from these areas are now relying on Marcos Highway as an alternative route.
In response, the Sangguniang Bayan passed Resolution No. 330, series of 2025, citing Republic Act No. 10121 and the Local Government Code, empowering the municipality to implement immediate remedial measures.
