โNung nalaman ko na kaya ko palang maglaro ng ibaโt ibang sports even volleyball, I became passionate in playing it. During my first year as a college student I tried to enter the varsity team pero unfortunately, i was not picked. This didnโt discourage me to let go of that dream. Sa sports, losing is part of it pero it doesnโt mean failure. I stand up stronger on my second try and naging part ako ng Mens Volleyball team ng Usl. The feeling i felt years ago during my experience of palarong pambasa rushed back through my veins giving me goosebumps and almost having my hair standing on end.
Para sa akin, being a student-athlete comes with rewards and sacrifices. It requires passion, grit and strength to overcome the challenges of it. You wake up earlier than most. You stay up later than you should. Your days are filled with lectures, practices, deadlines, pressure and somewhere in between, youโre expected to perform at your best in both worlds. Despite of the tiring practices, aching muscles and long days, kapag passionate ka into what youโre doing, may fulfillment inside. And para saakin, the feeling of fulfillment is what makes me keep on going, to be better through failure.
Yet before the word โathleteโ comes the word โstudentโ, therefore academics comes first. I balanced both learnings and trainings, hindi dapat na o-overlooked ang isa specially the academics. A student cannot graduate without learning and for an athlete, skills cannot be developed without training. Pareho silang importante para sa isang student-athlete. Kasi one day, when the games are over and the classrooms are already behind me, what will remain is not just the victories or the grades but the person I became through the struggles.โ
