Sixteen student organizations and publications across Mindanao State University โ General Santos City (MSU-GSC) convened at the MSU-CETD on July 25, 2025, for the โIskonvention,โ a day-long event that tackled community engagement and organizational development.
Divided into two sessions, the convention featured six guest speakers. The morning segment centered on how student-led groups contribute to community building. Mr. John S. Damdam opened the session with a talk on integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into student initiatives, followed by Prof. Novie Arren P. Barretto, MA, who tackled political engagement and activism, and Prof. Najifah P. Macaraya, JD, who discussed peacebuilding efforts within MSU and General Santos City.
The afternoon focused on strengthening internal systems through technical workshops. Mr. Antonio T. Mantahinay Jr. led a session on technical writing, Mr. Ariz Evan B. Imbong covered organizational finance handling, and Ms. Felicity M. Aceron conducted a workshop on basic parliamentary procedures.
Among the participants was The Magnates, the official publication of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), joining the unified call for responsive leadership, active participation, and enduring service to the public.
With the theme rooted in solidarity and social commitment, the event encouraged scholars to not only pursue academic excellence but also stand for collective advocacy and civic responsibility.
