A FRIENDLY REMINDER: For anyone in Cebu who’s been exposed to floodwaters during and after Typhoon Tino, please take prophylaxis (preventive medication) 💊 against leptospirosis, a serious infection that can develop after contact with contaminated water (from rat urine). 🌊🐀
If you waded through floods within the past 24–72 hours:
➡️ Adults (except if pregnant): Take Doxycycline 200 mg single dose (with food and plenty of water).
➡️ If exposure continues: Take 200 mg once weekly as ongoing prophylaxis until the flooding clears.
➡️ Children 8 years and older: 4 mg per kg body weight (max 200 mg).
➡️ Children under 8: Doxycycline isn’t recommended, focus on thorough washing with clean water and soap, and monitor for symptoms.
Watch out for warning signs in the next two weeks: fever, chills, body or leg pain, red eyes, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. If these appear, go to your nearest health center or hospital immediately.
Keep wounds covered, avoid floodwater whenever possible, and maintain good hygiene.
Stay safe and healthy, Cebu. 💙
