𝑩𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒅𝒐𝒔! 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒉 𝒈𝒖𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑼𝑺𝑱-𝑹 𝑩𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒂𝒏 |

Yesterday, July 29, 2025, a group of Spaniards led by Fray Fernando Martín Esteban, OAR, together with students from Recollect schools in Spain—namely César Loris Azagra, Antonio Atanes Trigueros, Inés Urgel Fau, and Lucía Llorca Chimeno—visited the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Balamban Campus, before proceeding to Palawan as volunteers to teach the islanders.

The group was warmly welcomed by selected Grade 11 students and faculty upon arrival, given a brief tour around the campus, and later invited to the convent for a Spanish-themed dinner. The menu featured traditional dishes such as jamón, queso, queso de carabao, tortilla española, filete de carnero, dulces, cerveza, and vino.

The volunteers are on a mission—under the care of our parish in Casian Island—to teach the islanders in Palawan how to assemble and install solar-powered lamps. Part of a sustainable initiative they do similar volunteer work in our missions in Apo Island and Sierra Leone, Africa.

The mission is organized by ARCORES, the international network for social projects of the Recollects. Locally, this visit serves as an inspiring example, encouraging future volunteer opportunities for our own students and faculty.

𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐈𝐍 ! The students who participated in the launching of Hull No. SC441 — Althea Nadine B. Vomberg, Steve Uriel L. Perfecio, and Shema Love R. Calinawan — were recognized for their artworks and called in front during the flag ceremony to be awarded once again by the school director and principal, Rev. Fr. Raul M. Buhay, OAR, and the academic coordinator of the Elementary Department, Ms. Rowena C. Tomarong. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students, whose involvement continues to bring pride and honor to the USJ-R Balamban community.

𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐈𝐍 ! Earlier this morning, three students from the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Balamban Campus, namely, Althea Nadine B. Vomberg, Steve Uriel L. Perfecio, and Shema Love R. Calinawan, were recognized for their artworks during the launching of Hull No. SC441.

Accompanied by Mrs. Mary Grace Calosor, Prefect of Discipline and faculty member at USJ-R Balamban, the students arrived at Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (THI), proceeded to the vessel for the awarding ceremony, and were introduced to the captain and other distinguished guests.

The launching ceremony was a meaningful experience that left the selected students with valuable insights and cherished memories. Truly, their participation marks a proud moment for the USJ-R Balamban community.

𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤, 𝐎𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞 |

Every time it rains hard, a lot of us hope for the same thing: no classes. We joke about it, post memes, and get excited at the thought of staying in bed a little longer. For us, it can mean more sleep, time to rest, or just a break from school stress. It feels like a reward after a long, tiring week at school. But have we ever stopped to think that while we’re wishing for a break, others are just trying to survive?

For some, heavy rain doesn’t mean rest. It means floodwaters entering their homes, no electricity, and the risk of having to evacuate with only a few belongings. Some students can't even return to class after a storm because their homes are damaged, their uniforms are soaked, or they need to help their families get back on their feet. We don’t always realize it, but hoping for class suspension is a kind of privilege. Not everyone has the comfort of just relaxing at home—or even have a place to call home—during bad weather.

This isn’t to say we can’t enjoy a break. We all get tired, and rest is important. But maybe next time we hope for a suspension, we can also remember that it’s not the same for everyone. Maybe we can be more thankful and more sensitive with our words and posts.

Learning isn’t just about lessons in school. It’s also about being aware of what’s happening around us. It’s easy to forget other people’s struggles when we’re not the ones experiencing them.

As Harper Lee once wrote, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”

So the next time you say, “Mayta mo kusog ang ulan oy para walay klasi,” or "Bundak uwan," just remember: what feels like a break for you might be someone else’s breaking point.

Josenians gathered this morning for an institutional Mass to formally welcome the college students at the start of their academic year. The ceremony was held at La Consolation Chapel and was attended by students, faculty members, and administrators.

Another highlight of the event was the official oath-taking of the newly elected Supreme Student Council (SSC) officers, marking the beginning of their term in student leadership.

This celebration emphasized unity, reflection, and readiness as both college students and newly elected SSC officers gear up for an exciting school year ahead.

𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐈𝐍 ! The University of San Jose - Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, held the opening of the tertiary department for the Bachelor of Science in Criminology. The event also included a blessing of the faculty and classroom, led by the school director and principal, Rev. Fr. Raul M. Buhay, OAR, marking a blessed and meaningful start to the school year for both faculty members and students.

The 12th Congress of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) at the University of San Jose - Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, has officially been elected!

This year’s elections highlighted the enthusiasm and collective spirit of our students, reflecting their commitment to leadership and active participation.

We commend all the candidates for stepping up to lead, and thank every student who made their voices heard through their vote.

Today, July 11, the students of University of San Jose - Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus, conducted the second activity for Nutrition month, which is the Feeding Program.

At exactly 8 in the morning, students ranging from Grades 4 to 12 proceeded to their chosen stations and began preparing food and refreshments, which were later judged by selected teachers. The goal was for their final product to highlight the main purpose of the event, which is to remind us students to stay healthy at all times. Josenians believe that one way to achieve this is by eating food under the Go, Grow, and Glow plate.

Let us spread the message: our health is most important, so let’s protect it at all cost!

Josenian students enthusiastically cast their ballots digitally at the High School Computer Laboratory, taking full advantage of the convenience and efficiency of the online voting system. With every click, they help decide who will rise to lead the SSC for the school year 2025–2026.

𝐅𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐇 𝐈𝐍 ! The University of San Jose - Recoletos (USJ-R), Balamban Campus’s student publications—ADELANTE Publications—held their first meeting today at the High School AVR. Discussions included the background of the organization, getting to know their respective roles, positions, categories, and the different communities, as well as the election of the new set of officers for the Editorial Board. The new officers and their respective positions are as follows:
