Olympian Aleah Finnegan delivered another stellar performance as she captured the women’s vault gold at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand on Wednesday, December 11, at the Thammasat University Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani.
Finnegan topped the field ahead of Vietnam’s Nguyen Thiquynh Nhu and Malaysia’s Yeap Kang Xian, who claimed silver and bronze. Her win adds another highlight to the Philippines’ medal surge as the Games move toward their closing stretch.
The vault title marks Finnegan’s third SEA Games gold. She previously secured two victories in the team and vault events back in the 2021 Vietnam Games, which were held in 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Haylee Garcia kept the momentum going after taking silver in the uneven bars. She posted a 12.333 in the finals, improving from her earlier 12.100 performance.
Justin Ace De Leon also delivered for the squad, earning bronze medals in both the floor exercise and rings events. He scored 12.500 in the floor finals and 12.700 in the rings.
Finnegan’s medal was one of several for the Philippines that day, joining the golds won by jiujitsu athletes Kimberly Custodio and Dean Roxas. Their collective efforts continued to lift the country’s standing.
With the SEA Games running until December 20, the Philippine gymnastics team has already shown remarkable skill and determination, giving fans plenty to cheer for in the days ahead.
