United Start: Parents and School Unite for Orientation and PTA Elections

Parents gathered enthusiastically today, July 5, 2025, at Sto. Niรฑo Parish Church for the first Parent Orientation along with the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Elections for the 2025โ€“2026 school year, showing their dedication to their childrenโ€™s growth and success.

To start another school year grounded in collaboration and open communication, parents were oriented on school programs, policies, and expectations. The event served as a platform for fostering stronger ties between home and school, with active parental involvement highlighted as a key factor in student success.

Principal Sir Ronald David delivered a meaningful speech emphasizing the importance of school policies and parental responsibility in instilling discipline among students. His message was further supported by Sr. Caridad Bayani, O.P., who reminded parents that values formation begins at home and is strengthened through cooperation with the school.

Following the orientation, the Homeroom PTA elections were conducted at their respective classrooms.

After the election of Homeroom PTA officers, parents gathered at the Regina Pacis Hall to elect PTA members, allowing parents to choose representatives who will serve as vital links between families and the school administration.

With the academic year officially underway, the school community looks forward to a year of unity, purpose, and continued partnership for the benefit of every student.

๐ˆ๐ ๐๐‡๐Ž๐“๐Ž๐’ | Student Orientation: SNA welcomes new school year

Sto. Niรฑo Academy wrapped up this yearโ€™s student orientation with a grateful heart as SHS students could no longer enter the Sto. Niรฑo Parish for the opening program.

Mr. Ronald D. David, the school principal, says it was a โ€œbeautiful problem,โ€ as it shows that the number of enrollees has increased.

On the other hand, Sr. Caridad S. Bayani, OP, asked for the parents cooperation and full support, as SNA will continue doing its best in shaping their students skills.

"Sa awa ng Diyos, gagawin namin ang aming makakaya upang maibigay sa inyong mga anak ang academic profession, spiritual provision, physical provision, at iba pa sa kabuuan ng pagkatao," she stated.

After the program, students proceeded to their respective classrooms along with their advisers for the student orientation.

In a country where taboos still choke conversations around s*x education and health, an invisible storm is building. The Philippines is facing an alarming surge in HIV cases, especially among its youth.

The Department of Health (DOH) has revealed that cases among individuals aged 15 to 25 have risen by a staggering 500%โ€”a trend so concerning that DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa has proposed declaring HIV a national public health emergency.

This isnโ€™t a distant issue anymore. Itโ€™s hitting students, teenagers, and young professionals. โ€œIn fact, ang pinakabatang na-diagnose natin ay dose anyos po sa probinsya ng Palawan (The youngest diagnosed case is a 12-year-old in the province of Palawan),โ€ Herbosa said in a recent message. That statement alone should stop us in our tracks. How did we get here, and more importantly, why did we let it get this bad?

HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, is a virus that directly attacks the immune systemโ€”the bodyโ€™s defense against infections. Over time, if left untreated, HIV can weaken this system so much that the person becomes vulnerable to illnesses that would normally be easy to fight off. This advanced stage of HIV is called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), where even common colds or minor infections can become life-threatening.

However, modern medicine has made it possible for people with HIV to live long and healthy livesโ€”if they are diagnosed early and start consistent treatment. The standard treatment is called antiretroviral therapy (ART). These are daily medications that stop the virus from multiplying inside the body.

With ART, the amount of virus becomes so low that it canโ€™t be detected in a personโ€™s bloodโ€”and when HIV is undetectable, itโ€™s also untransmittable. So if we have the tools, why are more young Filipinos still getting infected?

One reason lies in what public health experts call an information gap. Many Filipino youth are growing up without access to accurate, science-based information about HIV and s*xual health. S*x education is still seen as controversial, and in many schools, it is skipped or only lightly discussed. This leaves teenagers unsure of how the virus spreads, how to protect themselves, and what to do if they think they might be at risk. Without guidance, myths and misinformation often take the place of facts.

DOH data confirms that the most common way HIV is transmitted in the Philippines is still through s*xual contactโ€”particularly among males who have s*x with males (MSM). This pattern has been consistent since 2007. Many young people are afraid to seek testing or treatment, especially if they fear being judged for their identity or actions.

These fears can delay diagnosis and treatmentโ€”sometimes until itโ€™s too late. According to the DOH, 148,831 HIV cases have been recorded in the Philippines since 1984. Alarmingly, over 5,100 new cases were recorded just in the first three months of 2025. That averages to 57 new infections every single day.

If left unchecked, the rise in HIV cases will put more Filipino youth at risk of lifelong treatment, health complications, and stigma. Early action, testing, and education are crucialโ€”because once infected, thereโ€™s no cure, only lifelong management.

Happy Fatherโ€™s Day to every man who stood strong as the pillars of their home.

To the man who has given his everything without ever asking for anything in return, whose love is firm yet gentle, whose sacrifices are often unseen, and whose wisdom echoes long after the words are spoken. Thank you for the strength you show and the love you give, even when it's hard. You are deeply appreciated and forever admired.

Happy Father's Day to the most amazing man in our lives!

Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan.
Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan, Pilipinas! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Campus journalists pursue the complexities of science writing

Aspiring campus journalists explore the nature of science writing category on the 8th day of the school-based campus journalism training held today, June 9, 2025, at the Regina Pacis Audio Visual Room.

With the guidance of Ms. Mary Grace Manipon, the science writing category started with gathering facts. She reminds us that science writing is not about making facts but rather gathering and translating them for a broader audience.

"Hindi tayo scientistโ€ฆ Hindi ka mag iimbento ng facts, tagapagsulat tayo ng agham sa paggamit ng salitang maiintindihan ng lahat."

Ms. Manipon also highlighted the different formulas and structures of science writing. She adds that news, editorial, and feature are structures the campus journalists can apply in the category.

In the afternoon, the campus journalists echoed collaboration and screams of excitement by playing games that enhanced their teamwork and connection with each other.

Furthermore, winners from previous categories were also announced.
