Kinontra ni Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino ang plano ng Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region 7 na hulihin ang mga motoristang gumagamit ng improvised o pansamantalang plaka simula sa Setyembre 1.

Sa isang panayam sa radyo sa Cebu City, kinuwestiyon ni Senator Tol ang direktiba at binanggit ang “massive backlogs” ng LTO sa pag-iisyu ng mga official license plates na naipon na sa mahigit 12 milyon, Pebrero ngayong taon.

“I question the logic behind apprehending motorcycle riders for not having official license plates when it is the LTO's responsibility to provide those plates. I call upon LTO Region 7 to wait for the President's signing of the new law. Our motorcycle riders are not at fault here, yet they are the ones being punished. And also, why single out Cebu?” ani Senator Tol.

Balak din ng senador na lumiham kay Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista para himukin itong pag-aralan kung angkop ang nasabing direktiba.

Hihilingin din ni Senator Tol na ipagpaliban ang anumang katulad na direktiba dahil sa pagpapasa kamakailan ng Senate Bill No. 2555, na mag-aalis ng double plate requirement para sa mga motorsiklo sa ilalim ng Republic Act 11235 o Doble Plaka Law, na inakda niya.

Giit ni Senator Tol, bagamat alam niyang maraming atraso sa plaka ang LTO, hindi naman daw kasalanan ng mga may-ari ng motorsiklo kung wala silang license plate kaya hindi naman tamang arestuhin sila.

Nauna rito, nagbabala si LTO Region 7 Director Glen Galario na ang lahat ng sasakyang hindi sumusunod sa LTO Memorandum Circular No. VDM-2024-2721, na nagsasaad ng mga alituntunin sa paggamit ng improvised at pansamantalang motor vehicle/motorcycle plates sa buong bansa, ay mahaharap sa legal na aksyon at mga parusa.
