𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐈𝐓𝐄𝐊𝐓𝐎 𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍, 𝐓𝐔𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐆 𝐊𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐌𝐀 𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐀𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐁𝐀𝐘𝐀𝐍

Ang korapsyon ay krimen laban sa bawat Pilipino. Wala nang puwang para sa pandaraya at pang-aabuso. Hindi ito usapin ng kulay. Hindi p**a. Hindi berde. Hindi dilaw. Hindi rosas. Ang tunay na laban ay laban ng taong bayan laban sa mga opisyal na hayagang nagnanakaw, lumoloko, at tumatapak sa dangal ng mamamayan.

TAMA NA. SOBRA NA. Matagal nang ginagatasan ang sambayanan. Matagal nang ginagamit ang kapangyarihan para sa pansariling interes. Habang ang ordinaryong tao ay pilit binubuhay ang sarili sa gitna ng krisis at kahirapan. Ang mga proyektong dapat nakalaan para sa serbisyong panlipunan ay nauuwi sa bulsa ng iilan. At sa bawat pisong nawawala, may estudyanteng nagugutom. May pasyenteng hindi natutulungan. May pamilyang lalo pang nalulubog sa hirap.

Bilang mga estudyanteng arkitekto, hindi kami bulag sa pagkabulok ng estrukturang ito. Ang layunin ng arkitektura ay lumikha ng matatag, makatao, at makatarungang mga espasyo. Ngunit paano maitatayo ang isang maayos na lipunan kung ang mismong pundasyon nito ay nilalamon ng katiwalian?

Kami sa ArkiPillar Publication, katuwang ang UAPSA-PSU, ay TUMITINDIG. Naninindigan kami na ang boses ng kabataan ay dapat maging boses ng paglaban. Naninindigan kami na ang kapangyarihan ay dapat bumalik sa tunay na nagmamay-ari nito, ang taong bayan.

IBALIK ANG PONDONG NINAKAW. IBIGAY ANG HUSTISYANG MATAGAL NANG IPINAGKAKAIT. PANAGUTIN ANG MGA SALOT NA SUMISIRA SA KINABUKASAN NG BANSA.

Sa mga nagnanakaw, dapat kayong matakot. Sapagkat ang boses ng isang normal na mamamayan, kapag nagalit, ito’y umaalab. Kasabay ng ingay ng galit ay ang pag-iyak ng mga napagod, napahirapan, at pinahirapan ng kahirapan. Ang bawat sigaw para sa hustisya ay dala ng lahat ng hirap na matagal nang itinakda sa kanila ng katiwalian. Ngunit sa likod ng galit na ito, may puso. Puso ng mamamayan na nagmamahal sa bayan, na nagmamalasakit sa bawat estudyanteng nagigipit, bawat pamilya na nagugutom, bawat taong inaapi.

Hindi dapat maging normal ang korapsyon. Hindi ito dapat palampasin. Dapat itong kasuklaman. Dapat itong katakutan ng mga gumagawa nito. At higit sa lahat, dapat itong tapusin.

DAPAT MAY MANAGOT. DAPAT MAY MAKULONG. Mula ngayon, dapat maliwanag na ang korapsyon ay isang salot na walang puwang sa lipunang Pilipino. At sa bawat laban para sa hustisya, ang puso ng mamamayan ang gabay, ang lakas, at ang ilaw na hindi matitinag.

𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 | 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬

It was a feeling he knew well. The anxious wait, the racing heart, and the final click that reveals the results of a high-stakes licensure exam. But for King Nixon Castro Mabanta, the weight of that moment was doubled.
The topnotcher of the 2023 Master Plumber Licensure Examination, Mabanta had just done it again, securing the number one spot on the June 2025 Architecture Licensure Examination. Yet, his journey to becoming a two-time topnotcher began not with a triumph, but with a sting of rejection.

The Unconventional Path to a Dream
For most, a top-tier accomplishment is the culmination of a lifelong passion. For King Nixon, it was a redirection. He initially intended to pursue Civil Engineering at Pangasinan State University (PSU) – Urdaneta Campus, but as he candidly shared, “The course ran out of slots.” This initial setback, which he now views as a profound blessing, set him on an unexpected but fruitful path to architecture. “If I was not rejected, I’ll not be here,” he reflected, a powerful testament to how a closed door can lead to an open one.

While his passion for mathematics made some parts of his studies easier, the architecture program was a rigorous test of endurance. King faced significant “heartaches” related to his health, brought on by the grueling demands and a severe lack of sleep. “The subjects are tough, but expectations to excel more made it more difficult,” he shared. Yet, he learned to be more resilient and efficient. “The faster I can finish my plates, the more sleep I can have,” he quipped, a testament to his sheer determination.

His evolution as a student was a quiet but powerful one, transforming him from a “shy arki to a confident architect.” He developed disciplined habits, including doing advance studies to stay ahead and avoid backlogs. His thesis journey was a pivotal moment, where he sought to provide architectural solutions to key social issues, showcasing a deep-seated desire to use his skills for a greater purpose.

The Art of Slow Burn
King Nixon’s approach to his board exam review defied the typical “cram and burnout” method. Starting in late December 2024, his schedule was intentionally unconventional. He dedicated only two to four hours a day to self-study, reserving the rest of his time for personal research and, most importantly, rest. “I believe that a slow burn is better than fast burnout,” he explained.

This philosophy was heavily influenced by his past health struggles, which he worked diligently to avoid repeating. He credits his practical experience from his apprenticeship as a significant factor in his success. The hands-on knowledge of situational and practice-based scenarios, which are often tested in board exams, proved to be an invaluable resource. Beyond his practical experience, his primary resources were the “mother books” and his own personal collection. His love for mathematics helped him with memorization, allowing him to focus on the core principles rather than just rote memorization.

When asked about his motivation on low days, he pointed to his research. The thought that his life’s work would be in vain without a license was a powerful driving force, a whisper in his ear that pushed him through the mental and emotional hurdles.

A Role Model’s Enduring Legacy
When the results came out, King Nixon admits he was surprised. “To tell you honestly, I let go of the expectation that I will top the boards again,” he said. It was the people around him—his family, school instructors, and friends—who were not surprised at all, their unwavering belief a testament to his character. As a two-time topnotcher, he has become a role model for countless aspiring professionals. His advice is simple yet profound: “Being a topnotcher is something you don’t just aspire to but should work hard for. It will be given to you if you truly deserve it.”

Looking ahead, King Nixon plans to enter private practice and continue exploring his research. He wants to be the kind of architect who provides solutions through his work, making a tangible difference in the world. His final words of wisdom for those on a similar journey are a call to action straight from the heart: “Just do it! Life is full of obstacles but all you need to do is breakthrough!”

𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄 | 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐓 𝐋𝐀𝐒𝐓: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐫. 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐉𝐚𝐞 𝐎𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄

A surreal moment as described by Ar. Harry Jae Osias, who passed the Architecture Licensure Exam (ALE) with 82.00% rating and landed 7th overall in our country. His achievement is the testament of his diversified experience in the field and knowledge earned from Pangasinan State University- Urdaneta City Campus (PSU-UCC).

Before the ALE, Ar. Osias took Master Plumber Examination (MPE) last February 2024. His primary goal was to accomplished a no line of 7’s but his score achieved 84.80% rating just 0.80% away from the 10th placer.

“Noong nagtake kasi ako ng master plumber, ang goal ko lang doon hindi magkaroon ng grade na line of 7, well na-achieve ko naman, 84.80% yung grade ko doon, just 0.80% away from the 10th placer,” he said.

“Medyo na sad pero okay naman, I know rin naman kasi na nag-wo-work ako while reviewing for the Master plumber,”Ar. Osias added.

On the other hand, the late Ar. Manuel V. Manzano, Jr., an instructor at the PSU-UCC Architecture Department, described Ar. Osias as an industrious and diligent student. As an apprentice, he also demonstrated exemplary work ethic and abilities.

“Ar. Osias … I have seen in him the potential to become an Architect someday. After his graduation, I asked him if he wanted to work with me,” Ar. Manzano stated.

The late Ar. Manuel V. Manzano, Jr. was also one of his former mentors, along with Ar. Ariel Dela Co**ha and Ar. Royal Pineda.

Ar. Harry Jae Osias graduated 2020. He then eyed for having a diversified experience after graduation but was firstly challenged by the pandemic. However, he took a risk in Manila where he was accepted at Budji & Royal Trading Inc. as a Project Coordinator. In terms of work, he described it as a clean slate after graduation.

Additionally, he differentiated Manila honing his expertise on architectural detailing, communication to client and suppliers, monitoring of construction works, bidding, purchasing, etc. While in the province, he became more proficient on construction process.

Currently, Arch. Osias is working as a Technical Specialist at Focus Global Inc., where he applies his architectural expertise to deliver innovative and efficient solutions.

In preparation for the June 2024 ALE, he took a leave from his work this time and aimed for being a topnotcher.

A year delayed in taking up the ALE, Ar. Osias managed to aced the exam making it to 7th place on June 2024 Architecture Licensure Exam.

“Medyo nakakapressure lang din dahil sa batch namin before, 12/14 na silang architect tapos dalawa na lang kaming hindi licensed, though ngayon ang saya kasi lahat kami licensed na!” he said.

Ar. Osias was beyond grateful for his parents, family, and, mentors.

“Very fullfilling, I graduated last 2020 and I’ve been working since then. Now i finally can call myself an RLA,” he stated.

When asked about his advise for architecture students who look up to be like him, he said ‘Manifest it!’. Ar. Osias was very certain that from the very beginning you have to manifest it if you want to be a topnotcher.

As his success is celebrated by many, his seven words as the seventh place in the board exam is this:
“Great things come to those who wait .”

Urdaneta City, Pangasinan — September 10, 2025

The Pangasinan State University – Urdaneta City Campus (PSU-Urdaneta) has officially been granted a Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC No. 14, Series of 2025) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region I, authorizing the institution to operate the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program effective Academic Year 2025–2026.

The certificate was personally received during a courtesy call to CHED Region I on September 10 by College of Engineering and Architecture Dean, Engr. Rex B. Basuel, together with the Department of Architecture faculty members headed by Department Chair, Ar. Javier Kenneth C. Ciriaco. They were joined by Ar. King Nixon Mabanta, Top 1 passer of the June 2025 Architecture Licensure Examination (ALE), who accompanied the delegation in representing PSU-Urdaneta.

On behalf of CHED RO1 Regional Director Christine Nabor-Ferrer, Director IV, the certificate was awarded by Dr. Nympha N. Buenio, Chief Administrative Officer Engr. Leonora F. Quarte, and Education Supervisor II.

During the awarding, Dr. Buenio encouraged PSU-Urdaneta to "continue excellence, produce excellence," underscoring CHED’s vision of sustaining quality and competitiveness in higher education.

The issuance of the COPC is in accordance with Republic Act No. 7722, the Higher Education Act of 1994, and CHED Memorandum Order No. 61, s. 2017, which sets the policies, standards, and guidelines for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture program.

With this milestone, PSU-Urdaneta strengthens its role in nurturing future architects equipped with the knowledge, creativity, and values necessary to contribute to sustainable and innovative built environments.

The Department of Architecture also extended its gratitude to PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, Vice President for Quality Assurance Dr. Celeste T. Mercado, and Campus Executive Director Dr. Roy C. Ferrer for their unwavering support in making this achievement. Special thanks to Dr. Jenn Parrone, PSU Urdaneta Campus International Relations Coordinator, and Sir Bobby Roaring, PSU Urdaneta Campus Research and Development Coordinator for their intellectual guidance and help in the Department's COPC Compliance on Research.

The Certificate of Program Compliance was formally issued on September 4, 2025, at the CHED Regional Office in San Fernando City, La Union, and officially received by PSU-Urdaneta on September 10, 2025.

Urdaneta City, Pangasinan — The Pangasinan State University Urdaneta Campus came alive with cheers, creativity, and camaraderie as students gathered for Salubong 2025, a vibrant welcome celebration for incoming freshmen from various departments. Held at the PSU grounds, the event marked the beginning of a new academic journey for first-year students, with the Architecture Department playing a key role in the festivities.

The event also served as a platform for cross-departmental bonding, bringing together students from Architecture, Engineering, Education, IT, and other colleges. Architecture students showcased their signature flair through interactive activities and creative cheers, fostering a spirit of unity and excitement.

As PSU Urdaneta continues to rise as a regional hub for academic excellence recently producing topnotchers in national licensure exams Arki Salubong 2025 stands as a testament to the campus’s vibrant student life and inclusive culture.
With laughter echoing through the halls and new friendships blooming, the 2025 batch of PSU Urdaneta freshmen begins their journey not just as students, but as part of a growing, dynamic family.

URDANETA CITY, Philippines — The Department of Architecture United Architects of the Philippines Student Auxiliary (UAPSA), successfully conducted its annual Student Orientation on September 2, 2025. The event, held from 8AM to 12PM, was designed to acclimate new architecture students to their program.

The orientation began with a welcome address from Department Chairman Arch. Javier Kenneth Ciriaco. Following a recitation of the student credo, students were treated to a series of talks. Arch. Jumar T. Balicao gave the first talk, "Architecture Around Us - What is Architecture," providing a foundational understanding of the field. This was followed by an audio-visual presentation detailing essential drafting tools and materials for students.

A highlight of the event was a presentation by top thesis presenters Angelica Demi A. Dacpano and Victor M. Sioco. The two shared their experiences and offered practical advice on how to succeed in architecture school, charming the audience with humorous and relatable stories from their own academic journeys.

The event also introduced UAPSA to freshmen and its various guilds, including the sports guild, performing and arts guild, and the ArkiPillar Publication. The groups actively recruited new members, providing opportunities for students to engage in extracurricular activities. UAPSA also presented its calendar of activities and a breakdown of its membership fees, ensuring transparency.

The orientation marked a transition in leadership, with outgoing Chapter President Roseviel Mae Cristobal officially handing over her position to incoming President Adrian Jester Agbanlog. The new set of officers for the upcoming fiscal year was also introduced.

Raffle draws and icebreakers were held throughout the event, with prizes of architectural materials sponsored by partner businesses. Arch. Hubert C. Mislang, UAPSA’s adviser, delivered a heartfelt closing message, offering words of encouragement to the students. The department extended its gratitude to its official partners: Velano Printing Services, Alcantara Drafting Tables Woodworks, Rcadea Printing Service, and PSU Fabrication Laboratory, for their support.

The orientation concluded with group photos by block, capturing the beginning of a new chapter for the university's aspiring architects.

The 22nd Induction Ceremony of the UAP Pangasinan SCALE Chapter was held successfully, gathering members, officers, faculty, and distinguished guests to celebrate the commencement of a new term of service in the architectural profession. With the theme "Panagserbi ken Pammadayaw", the event was held at the 11th floor of Levo Hotel, August 20, 2025.

The event brought together the UAP President, Past PSC Presidents, Incoming Officers, Inductees, Members, non-members, and visitors to celebrate a new beginning of service and a productive term, promoting growth and development in the field of architecture.

Nagningning ang talento ng mga kalahok sa patimpalak na 𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 na idinaos sa amphitheater ng campus. Sa mahigpit na laban, itinanghal na kampeon si 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝗶 𝗚𝗮𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻 (𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜-𝟮𝗔) na nagtamo ng 98%. Pumangalawa si 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇 (𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜-𝟯𝗕) na may 97%, at pumangatlo naman si 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗝𝗿. (𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜-𝟰𝗔) na nagtala ng 96%. Nakapasok din sa talaan ng mga nagwagi si 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗕. 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗻 (𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜-𝟮𝗔) na nakakuha ng ika-apat na pwesto.

Bukod sa larangan ng sining, ipinakita rin ng mga mag-aaral ng arkitektura ang kanilang talino sa 𝗞𝗪𝗜𝗭𝗯𝗶𝗯𝗼, kung saan kinatawan sila nina 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗠. 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗙. 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶, 𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗔. 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗛𝗜-𝟰𝗔. Sa pamamagitan ng kanilang pakikilahok, higit na naipakita ang pagpapahalaga sa wikang Filipino at mga katutubong wika bilang sandigan ng pagkakaisa at pag-unlad ng bayan.

Pinangunahan ng KANAFIL (Kapisanan ng mga Nagpapakadalubhasa sa Filipino) ang buong programa katuwang ang iba pang organisasyon ng unibersidad. Nagtapos ang selebrasyon na may mensahe ng pagmamalaki-hindi lamang sa pagpapayabong ng wika at kultura ng bansa, kundi pati na rin sa pagpapakita na sa aktibong partisipasyon ng mga estudyante nagsisimula ang higit na pagmamahal sa bayan at sa sariling wika.

Sa isang pamantasang ipinagmamalaki ang disiplina, pagkakakilanlan, at dangal, ang uniporme ay hindi lamang kasuotan, ito ay simbolo ng pagiging bahagi ng isang mas malaking komunidad. Ngunit batid ng institusyon na bigo silang magbigay ng sapat na suplay ng uniporme, kung gayon, makatarungan bang ang mga estudyante ang mahirapan dahil wala silang mabiling uniporme agad?

Noong Pebrero, inilabas ang advisory 2025-010 hinggil sa uniporme para sa darating na akademikong taong 2025-2026. Gayunpaman, simula noon ay hindi naging sapat ang suplay ng pamantasan sa tela. Sa kabila nito, ipinilit pa rin ng Office of the Students and Alumni Affairs (OSAA) ang striktong pagpapatupad ng uniporme sa unang araw ng klase, isang polisiyang imposibleng sundin ng marami.

Maka ilang ulit na nagpaabot ng mensahe sa dekano ang mga student-lider upang humingi ng karagdagang anunsiyo, abiso, o kompromiso sa kadahilanang hindi lahat ay nakabili ng uniporme magmula nung ilabas ang anunsiyo, ngunit bigo silang makakuha ng kasagutan mula sa dekano. Upang punan ang puwang na iniwan ng katahimikan ng OSAA, naglabas ng abiso ang Supreme Student Council (SSC) na nagsusulong ng pansamantalang pagsusuot ng plain white shirt para sa mga estudyanteng wala pang uniporme. Isang praktikal panukala na agad namang hinarang ng Dekano ng OSAA, sa dahilang wala raw opisyal na advisory mula sa "kinauukulan."

Ngunit ayon mismo sa IGP office ang opisina na nangangasiwa sa pagbebenta ng tela uniporme, ay matagal nang ipinaalam sa mga mag-aaral na walang sapat na suplay upang tugunan ang pangangailangan ng lahat. Dagdag pa rito, sila na rin ang nagbigay abiso sa SSC na maaaring magsuot muna ng plain white shirt. Hindi ba ito isa sa mga “kinauukulan” na tinutukoy ng OSAA?

Nitong lunes, ika-18 ng Agosto, habang nagmamatigas ang opisyal sa loob ng kampus, daan-daang estudyante ang pinila sa labas ng pamantasan dahil sa hindi sila naka-uniporme. Umabot ang pila sa tabi ng highway hindi lamang nakakababa ng dignidad kundi delikado rin. Isa itong malinaw na ebidensya na mas binigyang bigat ang porma kaysa sa kaligtasan at kapakanan ng mga mag-aaral.

Isa sa mga rason kung bakit kinakailangan ang uniporme ay upang matiyak na ang seguridad at estudyante lamang ng paaralan ang nakakapasok sa kampus. Kung kapakanan at seguridad ng bawat PSUnian ang hangarin, hindi ba dapat mas pinagtuunan ng pansin sa kaluwagan sa pagpasok ng mga sasakyan, at maging ang hindi maayos na pagcheck ng mga bag ng mga pumapasok?

Nakababahala na sa halip na magpakita ng malinaw na pamumuno, kompromiso, at malasakit, mas pinili ng OSAA ang paninindigan sa pormalidad. Hindi ba’t mas makabubuti kung naging bukas sila sa dayalogo at naging maagap sa pagbibigay ng alternatibo?

Ang isyu ng uniporme ay hindi lang usapin ng tela, ito ay usapin ng prinsipyo. Kailangang tandaan na ang disiplina ay hindi nasusukat lamang sa pormal na kasuotan, kundi sa pagiging makatarungan at makatao sa pagdedesisyon.

Ang panukalang ibinababa ng mga nasa katungkulan ay pinag-aaralan at minamasid sa mahabang panahon bago ipatupad. Sana ay isinaalang-alang muna ng OSAA ang mga posibleng dahilan kung bakit wala pang nabiling uniporme ang mga magaaral. Kaunting pang-unawa lang naman amg hinihiling ng mga mag-aaral.

Isang KAHIBANGAN ang umasa na ang binhi ay magiging punong-kahoy sa magdamag.
