I think I needed to let my feelings out so I could finally move on…

As a mother, my heart breaks over the tragic deaths of the two young athletes. They were not soldiers preparing for war. They were students. They were someone’s sons. They were children entrusted to the care, guidance, and protection of their coach and the institution.

I cannot imagine the pain their families are going through right now.

What makes this tragedy even more heartbreaking for me as a mother is that Rene was one of my sons’ idols. They looked up to him and admired him not only as an athlete but also as a young man pursuing his dreams. In fact, it was one of my sons who told me the news.

Sports are meant to build character, strength, and resilience. When does discipline stop being training and start becoming dangerous negligence? They are not supposed to put young lives at unreasonable risk.

No parent sends their child to school or to a training camp expecting to receive the devastating news that their child will never come home again.

And while our laws provide remedies, there is a painful reality that many families face.

The penalty under Philippine law is often perceived as too light compared to the magnitude of the loss suffered by the victim’s family. No prison term, no amount of money, and no court judgment can ever compensate for the pain of a mother who has lost her child.

Pursuing a legal battle requires financial resources, emotional strength, and legal capacity that not everyone possesses. Sadly, many families are left with little choice but to consider settlement. But even if the settlement amount reaches millions of pesos, hindi na maibabalik ang buhay na nawala.

This issue is bigger than compensation. It is about accountability. It is about ensuring that no other mother will have to experience the unbearable pain of losing a child because of preventable negligence.

Justice is not only about punishment. Justice is also about making sure that what happened to Rene and the other young athlete never happens again.

My virtual hugs to Rene’s mom and condolences to his family.

Words of Gratitude from a Parent

"To our dear completers and graduates, always remember that true success is not measured solely by achievements, awards, or recognition, but by the kind of person you become — one who carries humility, compassion, integrity, and gratitude in every season of life. Never forget the people who have helped you reach this moment and always honor them by living a life of purpose and character."

Calling the attention of all engineers, architects, contractors, and everyone involved in the construction industry!!!

Every time we hear news of buildings nga mucollapse after an earthquake, ano ba usually ang tanong ng taong bayan?
WHAT WENT WRONG?
Why are some structures unable to withstand the disasters?

Kulang ba sa lessons sa engineering school, o baka mas masyadong pinagtuonan ng pansin ang subject na cost cutting?

Hindi naman siguro kasalanan ng semento.
O baka may nahalong ibang sangkap sa proyekto? 🤭

Is it a matter of engineering limitations, poor implementation of building standards, substandard materials, lack of inspections, or something else entirely?

Or is this another reminder that corruption can be far more destructive than any natural calamity?

Buildings don’t collapse because of one mistake alone, there is usually a chain of decisions behind every failure.

The public deserves safe schools, offices, hospitals, and establishments. If structures are built according to standards, shouldn’t they be better equipped to protect lives when disasters strike?

Ang hirap intindihin bakit may ibang structures that easily fail while others remain standing. Sino ba ang dapat sisihin?

Earthquake is an act of nature.
Structural failures is an act of _______?
