𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄| "𝙆𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙜𝙖𝙮 𝙗𝙖 𝙢𝙖𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙩, 𝙞𝙛 𝙥𝙖𝙜𝙠𝙖𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙖 𝙣𝙞 𝙣𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙣-𝙤𝙨 𝙣𝙖!"
Behind every published article lies a story of sacrifice—and a passion that beats for truth.
They say the pen is mightier than the sword, but few understand the weight it bears. The burden of journalism rests on tired shoulders: stacks of unwritten pages, a camera that never stops clicking, a laptop glowing in the late hours, and a bag full of not just equipment but the heavy responsibility of storytelling. The reality is palpable: deadlines loom, budgets are nonexistent, and social media demands attention.
It often looks chaotic and exhausting, and, at times, it feels precisely that way. Yet, beneath this struggle resides more than just work; it’s about heart, purpose, and growth.
Being part of the campus press is not merely about writing articles. It's a masterclass in multitasking. You become the writer, photographer, editor, layout artist, researcher, and social media manager—all rolled into one.
You chase stories while juggling classes. You edit layouts until the dawn breaks. Too often, you do this with scarce resources and a budget that barely exists. There are days when the work feels insurmountable, and the pressure weighs heavily. It is tiring and challenging.
Ilang nawong ra man pud ilang i-post.
Sometimes, students often see campus journalists as ghosts—seen but misunderstood. We hear the whispers when we walk by: "Smile-smile and poise-poise pa mi, wala man diay gi-post among pictures." Or the impatient taps on a phone screen: "Kadugay ba mag-post og update, kadali ra ana buhaton."
To them, we are just a social media page that isn't fast enough, or a group of "feeling famous" students who get to sit in the front row for free. They see the final output, but they don't see the hours spent editing, the sleepless nights fact-checking, and the effort to make sure every piece of news is accurate and fair.
But here’s a beautiful truth: We don’t do it because it’s easy; we do it because it matters.
When faced with a "zero budget," we don’t back down; we innovate. We learn to maximize our resources. When deadlines press in, we cultivate discipline and hone our time management skills. When overwhelmed, we uncover strengths we never knew we had.
This struggle forges resilience within us. It teaches us that passion doesn't require fancy tools or hefty funding to make an impact. What truly matters is the fire to inform, the courage to speak out, and the heart to serve our school and fellow students.
To every writer, photographer, editor, and staff member feeling the weight of your responsibilities: Take a deep breath.
You are engaged in a noble pursuit. You are the voice of the student body, the keepers of history, and the watchdogs of truth. The long hours and restless nights are not in vain. They are the building blocks that will shape you into strong, capable, and compassionate individuals prepared to face the world.
So keep writing, keep capturing moments, and keep fighting the good fight. Your work matters, your voice matters, and you matter.
