A Mindanao province is aiming to elevate its coffee industry.
Bukidnon Eyes Title As Philippinesβ Arabica Coffee Capital
The Bukidnon Coffee Council plans to develop at least 10,000 hectares for Arabica production to position the province as the countryβs leading source of premium beans. Governor Rogelio Neil Roque said rising local and global demand has made expansion a priority, with interest from Japanese investors growing after a tasting event in Manila.
Arabica beans can reach up to β±100,000 per kilo abroad, compared to around β±30,000 locally. The council is working with Central Mindanao University and private groups on research, genetic sequencing, and farmer training to meet international standards, while coffee studies are gaining traction among students.
