Dagyaw: A Concert Featuring the Choral Works of Robert Delgado
GUEST CONDUCTOR: Robert Delgado
Robert Delgado is a choral conductor, composer, arranger, pianist, clinician, and jury. He studied music Major in Music Composition and Minor in Voice at the University of the Philippines College of Music. While studying, he was a member of the Philippine Madrigal Singers under the tutelage of National Artist for Music, Andrea O. Veneracion. He also served as one of its resident arrangers and was with the Batch ’89 of the group (Madz ’89), where it won all the first prizes in all the prestigious international choral competitions it had joined, such as Marktoberdorf, Spittal, Cantonigros, Gorizzia, and Neuchatel.
After singing with the group for nine years, he engaged himself in choral activities; particularly, handling choral groups, spearheading international tours, competitions, and festivals.
In 2002, he led the San Beda College Chorale in winning the coveted Olympic Champion (World Choir Games Champion) in the Young Male Category of the Choir Olympics (now, known as, World Choir Games) in Busan, South Korea. Also, that same year, they were declared the National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Champion in the College Choir Category in Manila, Philippines. In 2023, he once again, led the group, now named, Philippine Male Singers, in winning the top prize in the Equal Voices Category of the Hainan Prize Choir Competition held in Haikou, China.
He is invited as a choral clinician, choral festival conductor, and jury in competitions in and out of the country. He has been a member of the international high-ranking jury at the World Choir Games, the largest gathering of choral enthusiasts from around the world, since 2008. He has given choral workshops and seminars in the United States, Taiwan, South Korea, Indonesia, and many provinces in the Philippines, and has conducted choral festivals in Spain and the Philippines.
He is a noted choral arranger and composer and has published volumes of his choral arrangements and recordings of his choirs. His arrangements have been sung by choirs around the world.
Apart from choral music, he has done music for films, live shows, recording, and state events. Recently, he has been listed in the Cultural Center of the Philippines Encyclopedia of Philippine Art, a repository of who’s who in the field of arts. Also, he is a member of the Music Committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. He has obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and is soon to be a PhD in Music graduate at the University of the Philippines.
