In 2023, South Africa recorded an unemployment rate of 27.99%, the second highest in the world. This staggering figure highlights the deep structural challenges facing the country’s economy.
High unemployment has been a persistent issue in South Africa for decades, rooted in a combination of historical inequality, slow economic growth, corruption, and a lack of sufficient job creation in both the private and public sectors.
