Subtle Signs of Pride in Ministry: What We Often Miss

Pride doesn’t always shout. It often whispers. In ministry, it rarely shows up as arrogance outright. Instead, it disguises itself in small habits, reactions, and patterns we easily overlook. Here are some subtle signs of pride to watch out for:

𝟏. 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤
When we quickly defend ourselves or get offended by corrections, it may be rooted in a desire to always be right or to protect our image.

𝟐. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬
Whether you feel superior or inferior, constant comparison can be a form of pride—it reveals a need to validate your worth through others.

𝟑. 𝐍𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝
If you’re discouraged every time you’re not recognized publicly, check your heart. Are you serving for God’s glory or your own affirmation?

𝟒. 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦 “𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥”
Pride makes us want the spotlight. But in the kingdom of God, the towel and the basin are just as important as the mic and the platform.

𝟓. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐲
A proud heart is quick to feel disrespected. It sees correction as attack, and silence as rejection.

𝟔. 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 “𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞” 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲
If you think the church or team can’t function without you, pride may be creeping in. God’s work doesn’t rely on any one person. He is sovereign over it all.

𝟕. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨
Pride isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it just looks like self-reliance. When we stop depending on God in private, we often start performing in public.

𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙣𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙮, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙚𝙧.

As ministry workers, we are not immune to pride but we can grow in humility. Let’s ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what’s unseen, to correct what’s unhealthy, and to bring our hearts back to the posture of Christ:

“Where God leads, He faithfully provides.”

If God has called you to it, He will surely make a way through it.

His plans are never without provision. He doesn’t call us to walk alone—He walks with us, equips us, and surrounds us with grace at every step.

Even when the path feels uncertain, His presence remains steady. You are not forsaken, and you are never left to figure it all out on your own.

“Kung saan ka man dalhin ng Diyos, may nakahandang biyaya at provision Siya ro’n para sa’yo.” 🙏🏽

Alam mo yung feeling na parang ang gulo-gulo mo? Parang ang dami mong sablay, and you start to wonder, “Mahal pa kaya ako ni Lord?”
Let me tell you: Yes, He does.

There were times in my life when I honestly felt like I didn’t deserve His love. Yung tipong, "Lord, paulit-ulit na lang ako. Nakakahiya na..."
But God doesn’t love us because we’re perfect — He loves us because He is perfect.

And the beautiful truth is found in Romans 8:38-39 (NLT):

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love... neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow... No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Nothing. Not even our mess. Not even our worst day.

Hindi kailanman naging basehan ng pagmamahal Niya yung linis ng record mo.
He loved you even when you were in your darkest moment.
He loved you even when you didn’t love yourself.
He never said, “Ayusin mo muna sarili mo bago kita mahalin.”
He said, “I’ll love you through the process.”

His love didn’t flinch when you fell.
His love didn’t run away when you broke down.
His love stayed.

Kaya if today you feel too far gone, too broken, too dirty — I want you to remember this:
Walang kahit ano ang makakapaghiwalay sa’yo sa pag-ibig ng Diyos.

Even in your mess, He is present.
Even when you're unsure, His love is sure.
And even when you feel unlovable, He still calls you His.

Psalm 122:1 says, “I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go to the house of the Lord. '” 🙌🏼 The amazing thing? We are the house of the Lord—His Spirit lives in us. No matter what you're going through, you can choose joy and worship Him, just like Paul and Silas did in prison (Acts 16).
