π« REMINDER: WE DO NOT TAKE IN PETS FOR SURRENDER π«
Think before you get a pet. Itβs a lifelong responsibility, not a temporary arrangement.
We get a lot of messages and these are just some of the common reasons people give up pets:
π Pet is sick
π No budget for pet needs
π No time due to work
π Puppy grew and thereβs no space
π Pet is now a senior
π Aggressive behavior
π Pets have multiplied and there are too many
π Moving homes
π Moving abroad
π Household member has allergies.
π Partner donβt like pets
π New baby in the household
β
What to consider before getting a pet:
- Plan for medical expenses and care β pets do get sick.
- Add your petβs needs to your financial budget.
- If youβre working, consider if other household members can share pet care.
- Itβs common sense that puppies grow and will take up more space.
- Senior pets will need more attention and care. Be prepared for this before bringing one home.
- Aggressive behavior can often be managed with proper training or professional help.
- Spay/neuter to avoid unplanned litters.
- Make sure rental homes allow pets.
- If you must relocate internationally, arrange trusted friends or relatives to care for your pet in advance.
- Discuss pet care, health issues, preferences, with all household members before getting a pet.
- If you are entering into a relationship with a partner who does not like pets, and can't work this out together, find trusted friends or relatives who can take in your pet β or better yet, find a partner who likes pets π.
- If you are planning to have a baby, consider how pet care will fit with your new responsibilities.
Donβt abandon or dump your pet at a shelter.
π A pet is your responsibility for life, so plan wisely!
