The Office of the Civil Defense in Eastern Visayas is WARNING to be prepared in case of the biggest fault line in Eastern Visayas.
That fault line is considered by Philvolcs as “The Bigger One” the biggest fault line than the one in Manila.
According to Director Lord Byron Torrecarion of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), in an interview with Eastern Visayas News, based on the Philvolcs study, if the strength of the Philippine Trench or fault line reaches Magnitude 7.0, it will possibly bring a Tsunami in the areas that are not. Near the Pacific Ocean like Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte and Southern Leyte.
Meanwhile, if the Philippine Trench is moving from Northern Samar and if the earthquake is at magnitude 7.9, the height of the tsunami could possibly reach nine (9) meters similar to the height of a three-storey building.
And if the same magnitude level happens from Leyte, the tsunami might reach 4-5 meters.
While it will happen in Dinagat and Samar, the size of the tsunami in Leyte is estimated to reach 4-7 meters and in Northern Samar is about 8-9 meters high.
Phivolcs' latest monitoring is the Philippine Trench activity here in Ormoc City in 2017.
Based on the study of Philvolcs, the areas that the Philippine Fault Zone or Fault Line can be passed here in Eastern Visayas near Ormoc City, Kananga, Albuera, Burauen, Mahaplag, Javier, Capoocan, Macarthur, La Paz, Abuyog in Leyte; Sogod, Libagon, St. Bernard, Lilo-an and San Ricardo in So.
