“You Are the Salt and the Light”

Text: Matthew 5:13–16

---

INTRODUCTION

When Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount, He turned to His disciples and said:
“You are the salt of the earth… you are the light of the world.”

These are not commands — they are identities.
Jesus is not saying “Try to be” salt and light.
He is saying:
“Because you belong to Me, this is who you already are.”

In a world full of moral decay, darkness, confusion, and sin — Jesus sends His people to make an impact.

---

I. YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH

(Matthew 5:13)

Salt in Bible times had three main purposes:

1. Salt Preserves (Nagapapreserba)

Without refrigerators, salt prevented food from rotting.
In the same way, Christians slow down the moral decay of society.

Where there is a Christian, there should be integrity.
Your presence at work, school, neighborhood, or family should preserve goodness and righteousness.

Application:

Your honesty preserves a corrupt workplace.

Your purity preserves a sexually immoral generation.

Your kindness preserves relationships from breaking.

2. Salt Adds Flavor (Nagahatag og Lami)

Salt makes food taste better.
Christians make life beautiful and meaningful by reflecting the character of Christ.

When you bring love, grace, joy, patience, and encouragement —
you make Christ attractive to the world.

People should taste Jesus through your life.

3. Salt Makes People Thirsty (Nagapauhaw)

Salt triggers thirst.
Your life should make people thirsty for God.

When others see your peace in trials, faith in struggles, and integrity in temptation, they will wonder:
“Unsa iyang sekreto? Nganong lahi man siya?”

Your life becomes an invitation to Christ.

BUT — A Warning:

Jesus said:
“If salt loses its saltiness… it is no longer useful.”

A Christian who blends with the world, who compromises, who hides their faith, loses effectiveness.

Salt cannot change the world if it stays inside the container.
The church must go out.

---

II. YOU ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

(Matthew 5:14–16)

1. Light Exposes Darkness

Light shows what darkness tries to hide.
Christians expose sin not by shouting judgment —
but by living in holiness.

Your life reveals what is right.

2. Light Guides People to Safety

In ancient times, cities on hills guided travelers.
Christians guide people to Christ.

Your words, actions, counsel, and lifestyle should help others find their way back to God.

3. Light Must Be Visible

Jesus said: “No one lights a lamp and hides it under a bowl.”

A hidden Christian is a powerless Christian.
Faith was made to shine, not to hide.

Examples of hiding your light:

Staying silent when you should speak truth

Compromising to please people

Being ashamed to pray or share Christ

Living differently in church and outside

Let your light shine!

The Purpose of the Light:

“That they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Our good works are not to glorify us —
but to glorify God.

Your life is a spotlight pointing to the Savior.

---

III. PRACTICAL WAYS TO BE SALT AND LIGHT

1. Live a holy life in a sinful world

Holiness is the clearest testimony.

2. Speak words of life, not gossip or negativity

Your mouth can brighten or darken a room.

3. Show kindness even to difficult people

Light shines best in dark places.

4. Stand for truth even if you stand alone

Salt has a sharp taste — sometimes truth stings.

5. Share the gospel

Light reveals the way — Jesus is the Way.

---

IV. JESUS — THE TRUE SALT AND LIGHT

Before we were salt and light, Jesus first said:
“I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12)

We do not shine on our own —
we reflect the light of Christ.

Like the moon reflects the sun,
Christians reflect the glory of Jesus to a dark world.

---

CONCLUSION

Jesus is calling believers to impact the world, not blend with it.
You are not ordinary.
You are not powerless.
You are not invisible.

You are the salt of the earth.
You are the light of the world.

Let your life preserve, add flavor, expose darkness, and guide many to Christ.

🕊️ Sermon Title: God Has a Plan for You

📖 Text: Jeremiah 29:11 –

> “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

🔹 Introduction

Mga igsoon, sometimes we ask, “Lord, nganong ako man?” or “Unsa man gyud ang plano nimo sa akong kinabuhi?”
We go through pain, struggles, and delays — and we start to wonder if God still remembers us.
But today, God wants to remind you: He has a plan for you.
Dili ordinaryo nga plano, but a divine plan — full of purpose, hope, and victory.

🔹 1. God’s Plan is Personal

“For I know the plans I have for you…”

Walay generic plan si Lord. Dili ni group plan. It’s personal — for YOU.
Even before you were born, God already knew your name.
Psalm 139:16 says, “All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

👉 Meaning, God prepared your life story before you even started living it.
Sometimes you may feel forgotten, but God says:

> “I know your name, I know your tears, and I know your future.”

🔹 2. God’s Plan is Purposeful

“Plans to prosper you and not to harm you.”

Dili tanan nga sitwasyon nga sakit ug lisod, pasabot nga wala na si Lord.
Sometimes, pain is part of the plan.
Joseph was thrown into the pit, sold as a slave, and imprisoned — but that was God’s way to place him in the palace.

👉 Ang imong testing karon, mahimong testimony ugma.
God’s plan will always lead to good, even if the process feels bad.

Romans 8:28 reminds us:

> “All things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.”

🔹 3. God’s Plan is Progressive

God doesn’t show us the whole map, only the next step.
Because if we saw everything, we might not trust Him anymore.

Abraham didn’t know where to go, but he obeyed.
Moses didn’t know how to lead, but he trusted God.
Mary didn’t understand God’s plan, but she said, “Let it be to me according to Your word.”

👉 Sometimes God hides the details so we will walk by faith, not by sight.

Proverbs 3:5–6 says:

> “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

🔹 4. God’s Plan is Promising

“Plans to give you hope and a future.”

Hope means there is something better ahead.
Bisag unsa pa imong naagian — failures, heartbreak, sickness, or poverty — dili pa na mao ang ending.
Because when God writes your story, it always ends in victory.

Isaiah 46:10 says,

> “My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.”

Nothing can stop God’s plan for you — not people, not problems, not even your past.

🔹 Conclusion

Mga igsoon, maybe today you feel lost or uncertain.
Maybe you’ve been praying for something and God seems silent.
But remember this: God is still working.
Even when you don’t see it, He is aligning everything for your good.

Let this be your prayer today:

> “Lord, I may not understand Your plan, but I trust Your heart.”

Because God’s plan is always better than what you imagined.
He’s not finished yet — your story is still being written.

🙏 Closing Prayer:

“Lord, thank You for reminding us that You have a plan for each of us. Even when we don’t understand, help us to trust You. Strengthen our faith to believe that every trial has a purpose and every delay has direction. Lord, fulfill Your plan in our lives — for Your glory. Amen.”

🧱 Title: Jesus the Tekton – The Builder of Our Lives📖 Main Text: Mark 6:3> “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary…?...

🧱 Title: Jesus the Tekton – The Builder of Our Lives

📖 Main Text: Mark 6:3

> “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary…?”

The word “carpenter” in Greek is TEKTON, meaning builder, craftsman, or architect.

---

Introduction

Before Jesus started His ministry, He worked as a tekton — a builder.
He built houses, repaired furniture, and shaped wood and stone.
Pero pag sugod sa Iyang ministry, wala siya nag-undang og build —
He continued to build, not houses anymore, but lives.

Until now, Jesus is still the Master Builder — building, restoring, and fixing the broken parts of our lives. 🙏

---

🪚 Point 1: Jesus Builds What Is Broken

📖 Psalm 147:3 — “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

As a carpenter, Jesus knows unsaon pag-ayo sa mga nabungkag.
When our hearts are broken, when our dreams are crushed, when our faith feels weak —
Jesus knows how to rebuild us.

He doesn’t throw away broken wood; He fixes it.
He doesn’t reject damaged people; He restores them.

💬 Example:
The carpenter uses nails to repair wood.
Jesus used nails on the cross to repair our souls. ❤️

🕊 Application:
Let Jesus handle your brokenness.
Maybe others gave up on you, pero si Jesus dili.
He can rebuild your heart, your family, your faith, and your future.

---

🧰 Point 2: Jesus Builds with a Purpose

📖 Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”

When Jesus builds, dili lang basta-basta.
He has a plan and a purpose for everything.
Sometimes the cutting, sanding, and hammering are painful — but it’s part of God’s design to make us strong.

💬 Illustration:
When a carpenter shapes a chair, he cuts the wood.
It hurts the wood, but it’s becoming something useful and beautiful.

🕊 Application:
Kung naay struggles or testing sa imong kinabuhi, ayaw kalimot —
God is shaping you, building your character, and preparing you for greater purpose.

🪵 The process may be painful, but the product will be powerful. 🙌

---

🔨 Point 3: Jesus Builds on the Rock

📖 Matthew 7:24-25 — “The wise man built his house upon the rock…”

A wise builder always makes sure that the foundation is strong.
Jesus said, “If you hear My words and obey them, you are like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”

Ang uban nagtukod sa ilang kinabuhi sa kwarta, relasyon, or success —
Pero kung wala si Jesus sa foundation, dali ra matumba.

🕊 Application:
Build your life on Jesus.
When storms come — problems, sickness, or pain — you will stand strong because your foundation is firm in Christ.

💬 Example:
The same hands that built wooden tables in Nazareth are the same hands building faith in your heart today.

---

🪜 Point 4: Jesus Builds Through Us

📖 1 Corinthians 3:9 — “We are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.”

Jesus is not only building us — He’s building through us.
We are His partners. We are also called to build:

Build relationships

Build faith in others

Build the church

Build hope in this world 🌍

🕊 Application:
Be a builder, not a destroyer.
Instead of gossiping, encourage.
Instead of judging, love.
Instead of breaking others, help rebuild them.

---

Conclusion

Jesus the Tekton — the Carpenter, the Builder — is working in your life right now.
He is building your character, your future, your faith, and your family.

He takes the broken wood of your life and turns it into something beautiful.
Let Him be the Architect of your heart and the Builder of your destiny.

📖 Philippians 1:6 — “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

---

Closing Prayer

> Lord Jesus, thank You for being the Builder of our lives.
Even when we are broken, You restore us.
Even when we fall, You lift us up.
Build in us a strong foundation of faith.
Use our lives to build Your kingdom.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen. 🙏

🌿 Sermon Title: Be Fruitful

Text: Genesis 1:28 – “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it.”

---

Introduction

When God created man and woman, the first words of blessing He spoke over them were:
👉 “Be fruitful.”

This command is not only about physical fruitfulness—like having children—but about spiritual, emotional, and life fruitfulness.
God’s desire is that our lives will produce good results, good character, and good works that glorify Him.

In short, “Be fruitful” means to live a life that produces something valuable in the eyes of God.
Tell the person beside you: “Be fruitful!”

---

I. GOD’S COMMAND IS A CALL TO GROWTH

Fruitfulness begins with growth.
You cannot bear fruit if you are not growing.

John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me, you can do nothing.”

If we remain in Christ—if we stay connected sa Ginoo—then His life will flow in us, and we will bear fruit naturally.
Pero kung mapalayo ta sa Ginoo, our spiritual life dries up.

Application:

Grow in prayer.

Grow in the Word.

Grow in love and forgiveness.
When you grow, fruit will come naturally. 🌱

---

II. FRUITFULNESS MEANS PRODUCTIVITY IN YOUR PURPOSE

God created each of us for a reason.
There’s a divine purpose sa imong kinabuhi—whether as a student, a parent, a worker, or a minister.

To be fruitful means you are productive in your calling.
You’re not wasting your time, your talent, or your testimony.

Colossians 1:10 – “That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work.”

Ask yourself:
👉 Am I bearing fruit in my ministry?
👉 Am I making a difference where God placed me?

Bisaya thought:
Ayaw lang ipuyo ang imong kinabuhi nga walay kabunga. God didn’t make you just to survive—He made you to thrive and impact others.

---

III. FRUITFULNESS REQUIRES PRUNING

Sometimes God allows pain or challenges para maputol ang mga butang nga makapugong sa atong pag-uswag.

John 15:2 – “Every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

Maybe you lost something, or someone left you—but remember, God prunes not to punish you, but to prepare you for greater fruitfulness.

Illustration:
When a farmer cuts a branch, it looks like destruction—but in truth, it’s a setup for growth.
So if you are in a pruning season, don’t give up. The next season will be your fruit-bearing season. 🍇

---

IV. FRUITFULNESS IS A TESTIMONY OF OUR FAITH

Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, “You will know them by their fruits.”

Our fruit shows our faith.
If we truly follow Jesus, it will be seen in how we live, how we speak, how we love others, and how we forgive.

The fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) are:
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Question: Are these fruits growing in you?
Kung dili pa, let the Holy Spirit work in your heart today.

---

V. GOD’S PROMISE TO THE FRUITFUL

Psalm 1:3 – “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth fruit in its season; his leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.”

When you live a fruitful life:
✅ God sustains you.
✅ God prospers you.
✅ God uses you to bless others.

A fruitful Christian is a joyful Christian, because they live in purpose and abundance.

---

Conclusion

God’s command to “Be fruitful” is not a burden—it’s a blessing.
It’s an invitation to live a life of growth, purpose, and impact.

Declare this today:

> “Lord, make me fruitful in every area of my life.
In my faith, in my family, in my work, and in my ministry.
I want my life to bring glory to You!”

---

Final Reminder

Stay connected to Jesus, the true vine, and your life will overflow with good fruit.
Remember:
🌿 You were created not to be empty—but to be fruitful!
