WHY DOES YOUR WHITE SNEAKER SOLE SUDDENLY TURN BROWN? 👟🤎
Have you ever washed your white sneakers, and instead of becoming brighter, the sole suddenly turns brown, yellowish, or tea-coloured?
This is something many people experience, and it doesn't always mean the shoe was dirty.
One major reason is oxidation. Rubber and some synthetic materials can react with oxygen, sunlight, heat, or certain chemicals over time. This can cause the white sole to develop a yellow or brown appearance.
Another common cause is using the wrong chemical or using too much of it. Strong chemicals, especially when improperly diluted, can react with the material of the sole and cause discoloration.
Sometimes, the problem is also chemical residue. If detergent, bleach, stain remover, or another cleaning product is not properly rinsed away, the remaining residue can contribute to discoloration as the shoe dries.
And here is another mistake: drying the sneakers under intense sunlight or excessive heat immediately after chemical treatment. Heat can accelerate certain discoloration reactions.
So what should you do?
First, don't immediately add more bleach because you think the brown colour means the shoe needs more chemicals. You may actually make the problem worse.
Instead, identify the material, determine what caused the discoloration, and use a treatment specifically suitable for that type of sole.
Remember this:
A white sneaker sole turning brown is not always a dirt problem it can be a chemical, oxidation, heat, or material-reaction problem.
That's why in professional laundry and sneaker care, knowing the material and understanding the chemistry is more important than simply using more chemicals.
LAUNDRY IS BEYOND SOAP AND WATER IT IS AN ART THAT SHOULD BE LEARNED.
