WORKING TOGETHER TOWARDS PEACE IN MINDANAO| The celebration of the Mindanao Week of Peace kicks off Thursday morning, November 24 with the aim of bringing all sectors together for one purpose and promote a peaceful atmosphere throughout the community.
Mayor John Dalipe along with key officials and stakeholders graced the opening ceremonies that was held at the Paseo del Mar, as he called on all sectors to unite and band together to achieve the common aspiration of Mindanaoans to "live in peace, unity and harmony with each other regardless of status in life, religion or culture."
Themed “Harnessing our Peace Efforts: Towards Solidarity,” the celebration is supported by Executive Order JD 2022-079 issued by Mayor Dalipe declaring the period Nov. 24 to Dev. 5, 2022 as Mindanao Week of Peace and enjoining the participation of all offices, institutions and sectors to actively participate in this year's activities lined up by the Zamboanga-Basilan Integrated Alliance, Inc. (ZABIDA), the main convenor of the activity.
Mindanao Week of Peace "is a week-long celebration to recognize the dream of Mindanaoans to live in peace, unity, and harmony with each other regardless of status in life, religion, or culture."
The Mindanao Week of Peace celebration traces its roots to Proclamation Order No. 127 dated Nov. 26, 2001 issued by then Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo which declares the last Thursday of November up to the first Wednesday of December every year thereafter as MOWP. (photo credits: Yoshi Rodriguez/ Guisao BION Louise Carpio)
