Indeed, our food doesn’t come from a box. It is being produced by our farmers, our food producers. The aging farmer population and the perceived disinterest of the youth of today to engage in farming imperil the future of our food security. Kids Who Farm believes that young as we are, we can be a part of the solution.

Campo Vida Agriculture Learning Center -ZC and Kids Who Farm trained partner Sama Bajau IP women in Barangays Talon-Talon, Kasanyangan and Arena Blanco in Zamboanga City on basic financial literacy and community-managed savings through the Hyperlokal Kapital Community Savings Club model.

The training aims to provide the IP women with the essential knowledge and confidence to manage their money, budget effectively, and make informed decisions. This is crucial for protecting themselves from predatory lending and for gaining greater control over their household finances.

The Hyperlokal Kapital Community Savings Club is a culturally-appropriate model that build on existing networks of trust and mutual support among these IP women. It provides a safe space to save money and access capital, all without the barriers of formal banking, which can be often inaccessible or intimidating for these communities.

By combining financial literacy and a trusted community savings model, these women can not only secure their own economic well-being but also strengthen the resilience and autonomy of their entire community.

----

This basic financial literacy initiative is part of the "Promotion of Women Leadership in Organic Farming, Financial Literacy and Social Awareness on Food Security and Community Development Project" funded by Manos Unidas and implemented by Campo Vida with technical support from Kids Who Farm.

Make farming fun and easy! :)

Kids Who Farm (KWF) is a Zamboanga City-based food production + education initiative which aims to teach young kids (school and out-of-youth school kids) about the value of food and farming. It endeavors to influence kids to better appreciate the beauty of food production through fun and easy learning sessions, exciting and educational farm visits, inspirational farmer encounters and the establishment of food gardens as learning sites run by kids.

KWF will collaborate with schools to strengthen their “Gulayan sa Paaralan” Program and make it a meaningful and impact-driven school exercise that will empower and influence school children on the importance of food and farming.

KWF will also work with like-minded organizations from the government and the private sector to advance food and nutrition security initiatives that encourages the participation of kids and the youth.
