Zamboanga Chong Hua High School (ZCHHS) continues to raise the bar in academic excellence as 47 of its students earned recognition in the prestigious 2025 Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), held onsite last August 9, 2025.

Organized by the Australian Maths Trust, the AMC is one of the worldโ€™s most challenging and respected math competitions, designed to assess studentsโ€™ mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students are ranked by percentile nationally and globally, making awards a reflection of true competitive performance.

This year, numerous ZCHHS students achieved an outstanding medal count:

With High Distinction, which places them in the top 3% of their year level, were Cyris Chad Manarang (Grade 4) and Byron Alden Tam (Grade 6). Their results reflect exceptional skill and a strong command of advanced problem-solving under pressure.

Scoring within the top 20%, the Distinction Award was given to Cyrus Carl Manarang (Grade 4), Jerome Rance Ejedio (Grade 6), Sabrina Louis Cheong (Grade 8 ), and Vincent Benito Chan (Grade 9), marking their outstanding performance among thousands of global participants.

The Credit Awards, placing participants within the top 55% of primary students or top 60% of secondary students were Kristan Brussett and Ulfbricht Uriel Patagoc (Grade 3), Craig Xander Ang, David Gabriel Reaport, and Saavedra Jace Cassian (Grade 6), Dylan Mattews Lim and Liam Khenson Chiong (Grade 7), Areez Nur Ijin (Grade ๐Ÿ˜Ž, Gabriel Royce Lim and Moira Isabella Salire (Grade 10), and Aaron Justin Perez (Grade 11).

The Proficiency Award, granted to students who demonstrated competence in mathematical problem-solving, was earned by 25 students were Ahmeed Alfahris Untoy and Maximus Cesar Turano (Grade 3); Azieya Jajurie, Jaazaniah Rachel Ejedio, Joaquin Wilco Hung, and Mathieu Andrei Muรฑoz (Grade 4); Martoni Yu and Oakley Jacob Sebastian (Grade 5); Abraham Heuclid Rence, Jana Fairuz Tinguang, Jheanie Jamil Tinguang, and Sean Asher Miรฑao (Grade 6); Austin Fredrik Wee, Heshaun Rence Abraham, Layna Bree Hung, and Sry Aubree Teo (Grade 7); Bevilen Bibi (Grade 8); Angelica Shi, Ethan Chiong, Jedrick Dilton Lim, and Nikkei Bryne Wee (Grade 9); Anykka Tan, Lance Gabriel Madrazo, and Skyler Sy (Grade 10); and Zyrene Saipuddin (Grade 11).

Lastly, Participation Certificates were awarded to Harry Shi (Grade 3), Jerline Alyna Lim (Grade ๐Ÿ˜Ž, Jodi Brianna Go (Grade 9), Adelphos Kenzo Lee (Grade 10), and Jianna Brielle Go (Grade 11), recognizing their completion of the full contest, for persevering despite the competitionโ€™s difficulty.

ZCHHS commends every awardee for their discipline, focus, and commitment. Their performance reflects not only individual brilliance but also the strength of the schoolโ€™s math education and mentorship. On October 14, 2025, Zamboanga Chong Hua High School warmly welcomed Hon. Zhao Xiu Zhen, the Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Davao (่ตต็ง€็ๆ€ป้ข†ไบ‹) and delegation for a special school visit and program.

To show hospitality, the school prepared a lively welcome that featured a traditional lion dance, the music of the drum and lyre corps, and students waving the Philippine and Chinese flags along the hallways, creating a colorful and festive atmosphere.

The event began with the singing of the national anthems of the Philippines and China, followed by the Zamboanga Hermosa song. Mr. Edgar Lim, chairman of the Board of Trustees, delivered the welcome remarks, expressing joy and gratitude for the consul generalโ€™s visit. Hon. Zhao Xiu Zhen then gave her message, emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange, education, and friendship between China and the Philippines.

After the speech, souvenirs were presented to the guests as a token of appreciation. Student performer Fhrinz P. Mesiona serenaded everyone with a song number, adding color and joy to the celebration.

The visit strengthened the bond between the Chinese and Filipino communities and highlighted the schoolโ€™s role in promoting understanding and cooperation through education.

The crown is back where it belongs! Filipina billiards star Chezka Centeno made the country proud after winning the 2025 WPA Womenโ€™s 10-Ball World Championship in Bali, Indonesia, on October 12. Her victory is not only a personal triumph but also a testament to the Philippinesโ€™ continued dominance in cue sports.

In an exciting all-Filipina final, Centeno faced her mentor Rubilen โ€œBingkayโ€ Amit in a thrilling โ€œbattle of generations.โ€ Both displayed top-tier skill and focus, but Centeno prevailed with scores of 4-1, 2-4, 4-2, 3-4, 4-2, reclaiming the title she first won in 2023.

Centenoโ€™s road to victory wasnโ€™t easyโ€”after an early loss to Taiwanโ€™s Chen Chia-Hua, she fought her way through the losersโ€™ bracket, defeating former world champion Sha Sha Liu of China in a stellar semifinal. Her determination proved that true champions rise after every fall.

Amit, a two-time world champion herself, once again showed grace, experience, and sportsmanship. Though she finished runner-up, her talent and humility earned admiration from fans worldwide.

Centeno, a proud Zamboanga native, dedicated her win to her hometown and to all Filipinos who believed in her. She took home $50,000, while Amit earned $25,000โ€”but the real victory was witnessing two Filipinas dominate the world stage, celebrating Filipino pride and excellence.

On September 16, 2025, the Junior High School Science Club held a slogan and poster-making contest at the Zamboanga Chong Hua High School Multipurpose Covered Court. This event aimed to engage students in scientific thinking and creativity. The objective of the contest was to promote interest in science, underlying this yearโ€™s National Science Club Month theme: โ€œSpatialize: Surveying Societies, Sensing Solutions.โ€

The contest attracted a diverse group of participants from various grade levels, all eager and ready to showcase their creativity and understanding of geoliticism. Students for poster-making worked in pairs, while slogan-making participants worked individually to come up with catchy slogans that could effectively communicate scientific themes. The slogans curated by students, were not only informative but also entertaining, allowing them to express their personalities while highlighting the significance of science.

Additionally, participants created visually appealing posters. In which, a significant amount of vibrant colors and eye-catching designs to portray their own unique style. The posters and slogan reflect their interests and their understanding of and creativity about the world around them.

In conclusion, these activities, although being competitive, these creative artists portray informative and interesting work. It showcased the creative talents of the students while promoting science as a vital component of education. Events like this are essential for nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators, encouraging them to think critically and creatively about the world around them.

The school recently welcomed Mr. Zeeyadh Jadjuli (Youth City Mayor of Zamboanga, Counterpart of Hon. Khymer Olaso, Vice President and Head of the External Affairs, Youth for Climate Justice Zamboanga City) as the guest speaker in our leadership event on September 9, 2025. His engaging talk focused on leadership values and responsibility.

Mr. Jadjuli spoke about the โ€œLighthouse Effect,โ€ emphasizing how influential leaders serve as beacons of guidance and inspiration, similar to the way a lighthouse helps navigation at night, and in the fog. He urged students to be role models who shine through their actions and decisions.

He also stated the need to stop corruption in the government and explained why it was bad not only for leaders but also for the people. According to him, corruption discourages our societyโ€™s growth and progress and stands in the way of achieving justice and development. By emphasizing honesty, responsibility, and service to others, Mr. Jadjuli urged them to create a bright future based on integrity.

The event was led by the Student Council under the leadership of President Charles Canda together with the council officers and committee members. Their collaboration gave the students a chance to learn the valuable lessons about leadership

In the end, Mr. Jadjuliโ€™s words resonated with everyone, leadership is not about power but about guiding others with integrity, courage, and vision.

The Grade 10 students of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School presented and defended their research proposals in physical science and biological sciences on October 4 and 5, 2025, demonstrating critical thinking and scientific inquiry at the 7 Rizal and 7 Quezon Rooms. The sessions, moderated by panelists Mohammad Akbar Aharaja, Maria Faustina Pelinggon, and Joe Merfurt N. Lama, assessed studentsโ€™ preparedness, research design, and clarity of presentation. Waiting for their turn, students gathered in the 8 Mencius Room, fostering collaboration and peer support.

The two-day event highlighted the studentsโ€™ diverse topics in physical science and biological sciences. Each student delivered a concise introduction, methodology, expected results, and potential implications of their research. Panelists evaluated the proposals based on originality, feasibility, and depth of analysis, providing constructive feedback for refinement.

โ€œSeeing these young minds take initiative in research is inspiring. Their presentations reflect both creativity and academic discipline,โ€ said panelist Maria Faustina Pelinggon.

Mohammad Akbar Aharaja added, โ€œIt is encouraging to witness students confidently defend their ideas and respond thoughtfully to questions.โ€

The research proposal defense is part of the schoolโ€™s ongoing effort to cultivate independent learning and critical thinking skills. Students practiced effective communication and academic rigor under the guidance of their advisers and teachers, preparing them for future research projects in senior high school.

The event concluded with panelists commending the overall performance of the students and providing recommendations to enhance data collection and analysis. Zamboanga Chong Hua High School plans to hold similar academic exercises next semester to continuously strengthen studentsโ€™ research capabilities.
