PNP Deploys Over 10,000 Cops for First BARMM Parliamentary Elections

COTABATO CITY — More than 10,000 police personnel have been placed on heightened alert as authorities prepare for the historic first parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on September 14.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed 10,439 personnel across the region to help ensure a peaceful, orderly, and secure electoral process.

PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co said the BARMM police force is on full alert from September 11 until September 30. During this period, police leave applications are suspended to keep units fully operational and visible.

Of the deployed personnel, 1,754 police officers will serve as Special Electoral Board members to assist election officials.
Authorities have also identified 93 localities as areas of concern, prompting additional security measures and closer monitoring.

The election is a significant milestone as BARMM holds its first parliamentary polls.

SM City Mindpro Hosts 911 Fire Square Roadshow in Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — SM City Mindpro joined hands with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Zamboanga City Fire District in promoting fire safety, emergency preparedness and community awareness through the 911 Fire Square Roadshow on September 11.

Held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at the mall’s Level 3 Activity Area, the event brought together mallgoers, students and community members for an engaging learning experience focused on preventing fires, responding properly to emergencies and knowing where to seek help when lives and property are at risk.

One of the highlights was the launch of 911 E-Connect, an initiative of the Zamboanga City Fire District that provides residents with a more direct and accessible connection to emergency services. The platform aims to strengthen communication and coordination between the public and emergency responders during critical situations.

Participants also explored exhibits featuring firefighting and rescue equipment and learned more about the tools used by BFP personnel in responding to different emergencies. Adding a lively touch to the program, firefighters presented the Bureau’s various uniforms, highlighting the different roles and responsibilities of emergency personnel.

SM City Mindpro Assistant Mall Manager Engr. Rommel Bellen emphasized that safety remains a priority for the mall and its community.

He said partnerships with agencies such as the BFP help create a more informed, prepared and resilient community.

The roadshow reflects SM City Mindpro’s continuing support for public safety programs and initiatives that bring government agencies and residents together.

Turtle Islands Mobilizes Community for 3rd Quarter Nationwide Earthquake Drill

TURTLE ISLANDS, Tawi-Tawi — The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Turtle Islands successfully mobilized security forces, health workers, barangay officials, and residents for the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous
Earthquake Drill (NSED) on September 10.

The activity began at around 2:00 p.m. with an orientation covering the earthquake scenario, safety protocols, and assignments of participating agencies. Participants then practiced the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” procedure, reinforcing the importance of protecting themselves from falling debris during an earthquake.

LDRRMO Joel Akip Hajiri coordinated with partner agencies on September 9 to ensure readiness and strong participation.
Mayor Jay Sayang Jamalul emphasized that preparedness and cooperation are essential in protecting communities, particularly in a remote island municipality.

The drill involved the Philippine Marines, Coast Guard, Maritime Police, PNP, Philippine Navy, Ministry of Health-RHU Taganak, and residents of Barangays Poblacion and Likud Bakkao

PNP Stresses Mental and Emotional Readiness for First BARMM Parliamentary Elections

BANGSAMORO REGION — Mental and emotional readiness are among the key preparations being emphasized by the Philippine National Police (PNP) as personnel gear up for the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections on Monday.

Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BAR) Director BGen. Christopher Abecia reminded police personnel assigned to election duties that readiness goes beyond physical preparation.

Abecia stressed the importance of maintaining a clear mind and emotional control, particularly while dealing with fatigue, pressure and challenging situations during deployment.

He also urged officers to look after their colleagues and not ignore anyone struggling with the demands of election duty.

According to Abecia, the sacrifices required from police personnel will only last for a few days, making it important for everyone to perform their responsibilities properly and professionally.

He emphasized that effective police service requires not only physical readiness, but also calm judgment, emotional strength and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.

Former House Speaker Romualdez Arrested Over P7.44-Billion Plunder Case

Former House Speaker and Leyte 1st District Representative Martin Romualdez was arrested Monday night after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant against him in connection with the massive flood control corruption scandal rocking the country. The plunder charges, filed by the Office of the Ombudsman, also named former Ako Bicol party-list Rep. Zaldy Co and two others as co-accused, with investigators saying evidence from multiple witnesses backs the case.

Romualdez, however, was not immediately brought to jail. Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the former Speaker suffered a cardiovascular event, unstable blood pressure, and an anxiety attack as authorities moved to serve the warrant, prompting his confinement at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City. Armed police have been posted at the hospital, and officials say they will check on his condition daily until he is cleared to appear before the court. He may eventually be transferred to the New Quezon City Jail in Payatas, the designated detention facility for cases linked to the flood control anomalies.

Romualdez's legal counsel, Atty. Ade Fajardo, said his client "only asked for a fair shake" and will face the allegations through the proper legal process, adding that criminal liability must ultimately rest on the evidence presented in court.

GenSan Grade 8 Student Stabbed by Schoolmate Inside Campus

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — A 15-year-old Grade 8 student was injured after being allegedly stabbed by an 18-year-old Grade 11 schoolmate during a confrontation Monday morning at Buayan National High School (BNHS) in Barangay Buayan.

Police said the incident followed a disagreement between the two students inside the school grounds. What reportedly started as a verbal altercation suddenly escalated when the older student allegedly pulled out a bladed weapon and attacked the younger student.
The victim sustained stab wounds to the neck and torso. Teachers and barangay personnel immediately responded and rushed him to a nearby medical facility, where he is receiving treatment.

School security personnel and faculty members managed to restrain the alleged attacker before he could leave the campus. Police later took custody of the suspect.
The General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) and Police Regional Office 12 (PRO-12) are investigating the incident, including the circumstances and possible motive behind the confrontation.

Authorities are also gathering statements from witnesses and classmates to establish what happened before the stabbing.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about school safety, conflict prevention, and the need for stronger mental-health and student-support programs.

Social workers and mental-health professionals have been mobilized to provide assistance to affected students and members of the school community.
Authorities are reminding the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while the investigation remains ongoing.
