Pakistan captain Babar Azam's lead as the top ODI batter continues to diminish as India's Shubman Gill makes further inroads on the batter on the latest ICC rankings update.

Gill has been in superb touch for India during the first two matches of their ODI series against Australia, with the in-form opener having amassed a total of 178 runs for the series during the opening two contests.

Gill now has a total of 847 rating points and is just 10 rating points behind Babar, ahead of the start of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup on October 5.

Pakistan football players face tough financial circumstances ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier after being left unpaid for the past four months.
The players are yet to be paid their dues amounting to approximately Rs1 million each.
With the FIFA Men’s World Cup 2026 Qualifier against Cambodia scheduled to take place next month, on October 12 and 17, the players and support staff have not been paid for the past four months.

Just a day after authorities in the US were baffled as they could not locate the stealth F-35 fighter jet that went missing from the thin air after the pilot ejected, officials finally located Monday the debris of the million-dollar aircraft in South Carolina, as it urged people to help finding the missing plane.  

The military was under immense pressure to locate the debris of the stealth fighter jet as people were left in amazement at the inability of the country's defence forces to find their own missing plane.

Pakistan may include Hassan Ali and Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup 2023 squad as the selectors face a Catch-22 situation over Shadab Khan.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in the process of finalising the 15-member squad for the ICC tournament which will be played in India next month.

The team management including chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and skipper Babar Azam are now considering making changes to the 15-member squad for the mega event.

Sources say that in light of the team's recent performance, the chances of Mohammad Haris, Usama Mir, Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Faheem Asraf making the World Cup squad look bleak.

Meanwhile, Hassan Ali and right-arm leg-break spinner Abrar Ahmed are likely to be included in the 15-member squad.

Pakistan's prospective 15-member-squad for the World Cup might look like this; Babar Azam (c), Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Abdulla Shafiq, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hassan Ali, Zaman Khan.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday warned that a Third World War may be right around the corner which he implied would be an escalation of the Russian-Ukraine war.

The 45-year-old Zelensky sat down with 60 Minutes, a famous US show where important world figures, celebrities and more address crucial issues within an hour.

During the interview, Zelensky, who will be visiting the US this week to address the UN General Assembly, discussed many issues including nuclear war threats, the upcoming 2024 US presidential elections and more.

In the interview that aired on Sunday, he said: "If Ukraine falls, what will happen in ten years? Just think about it. If [the Russians] reach Poland, what's next? A Third World War?

"We're defending the values of the whole world. And these are Ukrainian people who are paying the highest price. We are truly fighting for our freedom, we are dying. We are not fiction, we are not a book.

"We are fighting for real with a nuclear state that threatens to destroy the world."

LAHORE: Spinner Shadab Khan's position as the team's vice-captain is in danger owing to his poor performance as Pakistan selectors mull squad for the ICC World Cup 2023, a Daily Jang report published Monday stated.

The mega tournament is scheduled in India in October and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the team by Thursday.

In this regard, skipper Babar Azam and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq had consultations and will meet PCB chief Zaka Ashraf in Lahore today (Monday) during which matters related to the squad would come under discussion.
During their meeting, the chief selector and the skipper also discussed the fitness problems and bad form of the important players,” the report added.

However, the publication said, no major changes are expected but Shadab Khan’s position is under threat due to his bad performance.

He may be dropped and replaced with Abrar Ahmed in the World Cup squad.
