Previously, the export receipts for the IT sector stood at $306 million in March 2024 and $303 million in December 2023.

Experts attributed the growth to consistent policy measures, including the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications (MoIT) and the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) facilitating and incentivizing IT exporters.

According to the data revealed by the State Bank of Pakistan, exports of IT and IT-enabled services surged to record highs throughout the financial year, crossing a mark of $2.593 billion during the period of July to April 2023–24, as compared to previous export inflows of $2.135 million. This shows an increase of $458 million, or 21% year-on-year.

Renowned IT exporter Dr Noman Said commented that the growth of IT exports depicted the confidence of IT exporters in government policies favourable for their sector's development and expansion. The recent collective efforts of the IT sector made by the Ministry of IT, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and IT industry association, mainly in the Gulf region, translated into increasing exports of the IT sector.

Pakistan's IT companies are maintaining growth in traditional and non-traditional markets, including the US, EU, and Gulf countries, which may result in the consistent growth of IT exports in the coming months, he said and added. IT companies should trust government policies to work on high-margin projects, even through joint ventures with local partners or foreign companies.

Tufail Ahmed Khan, president and CEO of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), said freelancers' and remote workers' contributions are growing to overall IT and IT-enabled services exports.
He mentioned that the role of commercial banks and banking regulatory bodies in facilitating freelancers is vital to empowering them to bring IT remittances into the country through proper banking channels.

Various training and scholarship programs offered by various institutions, including tech giant Google, will enable thousands of people in Pakistan to become valuable members of the IT sector and economy. Not only will IT companies offer them jobs, but skilled IT workers could earn millions of dollars in Pakistan by working on various projects on different freelancing platforms.

With two months left in the financial year, the exports of IT and IT-enabled services are likely to exceed $3 billion in the current financial year 2023–24.

Malaysia is poised to enhance its tourism sector and economic growth by waiving entry visa requirements for Indian and Chinese citizens starting December 1. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced this strategic move, granting visitors from these nations a visa-free stay of up to 30 days. The initiative mirrors similar policies in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Thailand, making Malaysia the fourth country to adopt such measures.

The primary objective is to stimulate tourism and bolster economic recovery. Despite the visa exemption, security screening will still be in place, underscoring Malaysia’s commitment to ensuring safety. By simplifying entry procedures, the government anticipates attracting a surge in visitors, fostering increased spending and contributing significantly to the nation’s economic revitalization.

This forward-looking policy aligns with global trends aimed at facilitating international travel and fostering economic exchanges. Malaysia’s welcoming stance towards Indian and Chinese tourists reflects a proactive approach to harnessing the economic potential of tourism while maintaining security protocols. The success of this initiative is anticipated to position Malaysia as an attractive destination and support the nation’s broader economic objectives.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment, Khaled Al-Falih, has announced a new phosphate project with an estimated cost of SR33 billion. The goal is to double the Kingdom’s phosphate production capacity, making it the world’s third-largest phosphate producer.

Al-Falih mentioned plans not only to convert phosphate into fertilizers but also into advanced chemical products.

The Saudi Economic Cities and Special Zones Authority (ECZA) is exploring connections between border areas and free zones with neighboring countries. Al-Falih expressed hope for the establishment of the first tax-free economic zone with Iraq in Arar, encouraging cross-border investment.

The Northern Borders Region, where the project will take place, offers around SR100 billion in investment opportunities. This region is rich in resources, holding about 25% of the Kingdom’s mineral wealth, totaling SR1.2 trillion.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources for Mining Affairs, Khaled Al-Mudaifer, noted that the Northern Border Region has about 7% of the global phosphate reserve, with an investment volume of about SR85 billion.

Additionally, the region’s potential for renewable energy production and the growing global demand for environmentally friendly products add to its strategic significance. The Kingdom aims for over $3 trillion in investments, including the mining sector, within the next three years.

Business class passengers have always been treated differently in terms of food and travel experience but an airline went a mile more in terms of menu and ended up committing a blunder.
China Eastern Airlines' menu was uploaded by a social media user online which included 'imported dog food' as an appetizer for Business Class flyers.

The picture shared by Conrad Wu depicts the business class menu featuring beef, seafood, and soup options; however, a probable mistranslation also indicates “imported dog food with okra” in the menu which has shocked many.

Conrad's post was made in Chinese, the translation of which states: “China Eastern Airlines Business Class menu, what exactly is it?”

Though the menu has gone viral, the specific dish referred to in the translated menu aboard the flight remains unclear.

The airline has not issued any comment on the blunder despite contacts by leading dailies. Observers say that a translation blunder is the root cause.

The collaboration between China’s Hongdu Aircraft Company and Pakistan, revealed at the 2023 Dubai Airshow, centers on the prospective acquisition of light attack aircraft. The intended replacement for Pakistan Air Force’s aging F-7PG fighters is the L-15 trainer light attack aircraft. This modernization initiative underscores Pakistan’s commitment to advancing its combat pilot training capabilities.

The L-15, equipped with nine strategically positioned hardpoints on the fuselage and wings, presents a versatile platform capable of carrying up to three tonnes of weaponry. Noteworthy features include the HJ-10 anti-tank guided missiles and the LS series of 250-500kg laser- and satellite-guided bombs. These armaments significantly augment ground assault capabilities, emphasizing the aircraft’s multifunctionality.

The potential deal signifies a technological leap for Pakistan, aligning with its objective to enhance air force capabilities. Moreover, the collaboration exemplifies the growing international partnerships in the defense sector and underscores the role of airshows as platforms for unveiling strategic developments in the aerospace industry. As geopolitical dynamics continue to shape defense priorities, this proposed acquisition reflects a strategic move by both China and Pakistan to bolster their military capabilities.

During the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 finals between India and Australia on Sunday, November 19, a security breach occurred as an unidentified individual infiltrated the pitch. The intruder, clad in a ‘Free Pàlès-tīnè ‘ t-shirt, red shorts, and a white shirt with the same message on the back, aimed to embrace Virat Kohli, a prominent Indian batsman. Notably, he also adorned a face mask featuring the colors of the Pàlèstíníàn flag.

This incident raises concerns about the effectiveness of security measures at high-profile events. The choice of attire and the political message on the clothing suggest a potential motive beyond mere disruption. The security breach not only jeopardized the safety of players but also highlighted the challenges of preventing unauthorized access to such tightly controlled environments.

In response, organizers and authorities must conduct a thorough review of their security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future. As major sporting events draw global attention, ensuring the safety and integrity of the game is paramount, necessitating heightened vigilance and adaptability in security measures to address emerging threats.

In the first match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers’ second round, Saudi Arabia secured a convincing 4-0 victory over Pakistan at the Al-Fateh Stadium in Al-Hasa.

Despite an initially competitive performance from Pakistan in the first half, Saudi Arabia dominated the second half, scoring three additional goals.
Saleh Al-Shahri led the scoring with goals in the 6th and 48th minutes, followed by Abdul Rahman Ghareeb in the 91st minute and Abdullah Radif in the 96th minute.

The absence of Eash Suliman, due to injury, weakened Pakistan’s defense, allowing Saudi Arabia to maintain significant possession and emerge victorious as expected.

This marks Pakistan’s first participation in the second round of the Asian Qualifiers, with upcoming matches against Tajikistan, Jordan, and future fixtures in March and June determining qualification for the third round of the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers.
