Four clinical tests used to assess knee injuries, especially damage to the ligaments and menisci. Here's an explanation of each test:

1. Drawer Test

Purpose: To assess the integrity of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL).

Method:

The patient lies supine (on their back) with the knee flexed to 90°.

The examiner stabilizes the foot and pulls the tibia forward.

Positive Sign: Excessive forward movement of the tibia compared to the uninjured leg indicates a possible ACL tear.

2. Test

Purpose: Also tests for ACL injury (more sensitive than the Anterior Drawer Test).

Method:

The knee is flexed to 20°–30°.

The examiner stabilizes the femur with one hand and pulls the tibia forward with the other.

Positive Sign: A soft or mushy end feel with increased forward translation of the tibia suggests an ACL tear.

3. Shift Test

Purpose: To assess ACL injury, particularly dynamic instability.

Method:

The leg is lifted with the knee extended.

The examiner applies a valgus stress (inward force) and internal rotation while flexing the knee.

Positive Sign: A clunk or shift felt at about 30–40° of flexion indicates ACL insufficiency.

4. Test...

Purpose: To detect meniscal tears (medial or lateral).

Method:

The patient lies supine with the examiner holding the heel and knee.

The examiner rotates the tibia internally and externally while flexing and extending the knee.

Positive Sign: A click, pop, or pain during rotation suggests a meniscal tear.
