Karamat Ali, a filmmaker from Altit in Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, is the creative force behind HunDan – An Echo of a Dirge, the first-ever feature film made in the Burushaski language. With a background in mass communication and a deep commitment to cultural preservation, he founded the Rockwood Production & Resource Centre to promote indigenous storytelling from the mountains. His work is rooted in the folklore, traditions, and linguistic heritage of his homeland, drawing inspiration from stories passed down through generations. UNESCO and Serena Hotels premiered HunDan on International Mother Earth Day, recognizing its powerful themes of environmental stewardship, cultural identity, and resistance against ecological and linguistic erosion.
Karamat initiated HunDun Film School in Gilgit -Baltistan providing a platform for younger generation to foster their filmmaking skills and bring up mountain stories with quality and essence.
