Pakistan through film pics episode 1. “Arrival”

The classic trip recap through film pics is back. For the new ones, in these episodes I will talk about our trip through the pics I took with my film camera (an old one, not digital).
Disclaimer: my camera was a bit drunk during the trip, so some pics are shaky or bad. We don’t care: we are real🤣
Disclaimer 2: English is not my mother tongue and I write stream of consciousness style. You will see lots of mistakes and repetitions.
We started this journey after 2 years since the last group trip. Me, Mario and Davide. Usual group. Except that this time, there was a new joiner: Fede.
He is the first person I have met in my life besides my parents and family. We know each other since 23 years. For some reasons we lost each other and got back in touch few times. But real friendships last beyond borders. And this trip showed it.
We left our countries we all the fears on our shoulders: the geopolitical situations was not promising (we spent the previous 2 months monitoring the war every day) and the people at home were always scared for us: “why would you go there” “they will kill you” “you won’t come back”. The usual bu****it, stigma and bias about Middle Eastern people. Remind this. We will come back on this topic.
Davide and me landed in Islamabad at 4am. The only westerns on the plane. That’s what we are looking for. The impact was immediately positive. We slept, and Dario arrived the following morning.
We spent the first day visiting Islamabad: we were shocked by the chill vibes, green areas and cleanliness of the city. And we got the chance to immediately experience Pakistani hospitality and food.
We had no internet, but we met 4 guys that helped us visiting the city and trying the best places.
We immediately understood the difference between European narrative and reality. Always judge by yourself, according to your own experience. We literally gave 600 euros to 2 strangers to change them. Would you do this in EU?
In any case, it was time to go back. Mountains were waiting for us.
Pic 1: Islamabad Mosque
Pic 2: backpack. Light travelling
Pic 3 and 4: Abu Dhabi airport
Pic 5 6 7: in Islamabad w new friends.

The trekking wasn't the best (aside from the scenery, which was lovely) but this view..definitely unforgettable

Nepal through film pics ep 8 "The end"
If I have to find one "cons" of this trip, besides being super tired once we got bacķ, it is not being able to travel with Davide, our historic travel-mate, which perfectly completes the trio.
However, due to this unforseen circumstance, we got the chance to meet Dani. Amazing guy amd perfect fit in the group. I am sure he will be part of the next expedition (.dmr leone ti aspettiamo Pakistan 2k26 mancano solo 8 mesi).
1)In the streets of Bakthapur. Unfortunately, Davide couldnt find his flip flops at home, so he had to borrow the one of his aunt Luisa. Better than nothing.
2/3) pretending to visit the old city of Bakhtapur by ourselves after having refused 10 guides. Davide also cried when he heard the price of the ticket.
4/5/6) Some shots of Kathmandu and the surroundings.
7/8) making new friends while eating a surprisingly good ice cream.
9/10/11) Intense negotiations with our friend mubarak
, I actually might do a special episode about that.
12/13) last breakfast and lunch. Please take a moment to admire our faces.
14) ready to go with one extra bag full of souvenirs. This colour is a special nepalese release, we do not support fake products and no copyrights were infringed.
15) Last dinner in Chengdou, China, during a long layover.
16) real last dinner.
17) Back to Brussels and to work. Coudnt do anything for 2 weeks.
Incredible experience. I more and more believe that good trips are about the people you good with rather than the place itself. We always try to enjoy the culture and understand where we are, trying to melt with the local population, always remembering our privilege. We are born in the lucky part of the world. Or the guilty one.
Lets avoid this commodification of tourism. Let’s avoid turning travel into a numbers game — a frantic race to collect countries, stamp passports, and post photos without truly engaging with the places we visit. Tourism shouldn’t be about fast consumption, but about slowing down, listening, and allowing a destination to leave a mark deeper than a checkmark on a list.
Thanks. Now back to India in 2 weeks, Ladakh is coming.
And we will start to organize Pakistan...
