Roushan village is located in Gupis tehsil, Ghizer district. The valley (or stream) is at most 30 kilometres long. Google Earth imagery clearly shows a glacial lake situated 25 kilometres away, yet no glaciers are visible near Roushan village itself. The temperature at these glacier sites remains low because cold air constantly flows from the glaciers. Behind these sites lie the glaciers of Bhutrite Nala and Chhashi Nala—broadly speaking, the area is dominated by extensive glaciers and glacial lakes, where the temperature in summer still hovers close to the freezing point. The bursting of these glacial lakes is a clear sign of dangerous climate change.
