Atlas Honda has jacked up prices of its motorcycles by as much as Rs15,000, with new rates kicking in from July 1, said dealers on Wednesday.

Association of Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers (APMA) Chairman Sabir Sheikh said that the newly-imposed super tax of 10% and the depreciating rupee are reasons for the hike.

Product-wise, Honda CD 70 saw a hike of Rs5,000 and is now priced at Rs111,500. Similarly, the CD70 Dream variant would now be available at Rs119,500 after a surge of Rs6,000. The Pridor model will now be sold at Rs150,900, following an increase of Rs6,000.

The rates of CG125 and CG125S have been hiked by Rs6,000 and Rs7,000, taking their prices to Rs174,500 and Rs205,500, respectively.

The price of the Honda CB125F has been increased to Rs263,900 after an increase of Rs10,000.

The CB150F variants also witnessed price revisions of Rs15,000. The new rate of CB150F (red, black) has been increased to Rs323,900 while CB150F (Silver) will be sold at Rs327,900.

Atlas Honda has been raising bike prices every month since March 2022.

In its previous revision, Atlas Honda hiked rates of its motorcycles in the range of Rs3,600-9,000, with new prices kicking in from June 1.

At the time, reasons cited by motorcycle manufacturers included a spike in raw material cost, the surge in global freight rates, and persistent rupee depreciation.

Eidul Azha will be celebrated in the country on July 10, as Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad announced the Zilhaj moon was not sighted on Wednesday.

Talking to the media at Met Office after chairing a committee’s meeting, he said credible evidence as per Sharia was not received from different cities regarding the sighting of the Zilhaj moon. “Therefore, the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee officially announces the commencement of the month of Zilhaj from July 1,” he added.

“We met all due formalities,” he said. “We contacted our regional offices and also our designated people in different towns and districts. The Met Office here [in Karachi] provided every possible technical support. The conditions in different parts of the country were quite overcast. It was a consensual decision after thorough deliberation that moon was not sighted in any part of the country today.”

The 10th Zilhaj, he said, would fall on July 10 when the Eid will be celebrated across Pakistan.

Singer and philanthropist Abrarul Haq on Saturday announced that his lawyers in the UK had issued a legal notice to Moviebox Records Label for the "misappropriation" of his song 'Nach Punjaban' (dance Punjabi woman) in filmmaker Karan Johar's Bollywood movie "JugJugg Jeeyo"

Last month, Haq took to Twitter and accused Johar and the filmmaker's company Dharma Productions of stealing his song and said he never sold them the rights to 'Nach Punjaban'

In response to Haq's tweet, record label Movie Box had said on Twitter that the song had been officially licensed to be included in the film and that Johar and his production company had the legal rights to use the song in the upcoming movie. They also called the 53-year-old singer's tweet "defamatory" and "completely unacceptable".

Later, the singer clarified that his song had not been "licensed" to anyone and urged those making such a claim to produce an agreement. In the tweet, Haq had warned of legal action.

Record label T-Series had also issued a statement on Twitter and said that they had "legally acquired the rights to adapt the song 'Nach Punjaban' that was ... available on Lollywood Classics' YouTube channel, owned by Movie Box.”

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Saturday said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was tasked with probing into an agreement between PTV Sports and GroupM.

Addressing a news conference, she said that an amendment sought cable and satellite broadcasters, which was not a condition of the pre-requisition notice for Ten Sports and International Cricket Council (ICC) rights when the bids were invited. She added that the terms of reference which were issued later were different from the expression of interest (EoI) notice.

The minister said that the bids came in on August 27, while they were officially opened on August 28 last year, and four companies GroupM (represented by ARY), Blitz Advertising, Tower Sports, and Trade Chronicle were marked for public-private partnership.

She mentioned that Trade Chronicle was disqualified on technical grounds, which left GroupM, Blitz Advertising, and Tower Sports. She claimed that the EoI notices were changed at each stage.

Marriyum said that on August 28, the review committee awarded markings, with Blitz Advertising scoring 182 out of 300, GroupM scoring 167, and Tower Sports scoring 131 points. The committee then signed the scores and issued a letter in this regard, which was signed by the director of sports, directof or finance, director engineering, chief commercial,l officer, and director of administration and personnel.

She pointed out that the letter had explicitly mentioned that Blitz Advertising had earned the most points and had given a better partnership deal, while some things would havebefored prior to the agreement with the company.

“Then, on August 28, a note goes to the PTV MD stating that two of three companies have been selected,” she said. “The note states that the committee is saying that we have selected these two companies and we want to go into further discussion with them but the committee did not say so.”

She said that the committee issued a letter to Blitz Advertising, saying that it was selected on account of its higher score. “Blitz Advertising has previously partnered with PTV on a project,” she added.

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said Friday the government will not be giving any more subsidies on petroleum products and the levy on the commodity will go up to Rs50.

Miftah, during an interview on Geo News’ program “Naya Pakistan”, said the previous government left Pakistan on the brink of default and they should not have given subsidies on petroleum products and energy.

“During the previous government's tenure, Rs1,500 were spent on subsidies,” the finance minister said.
