For the first time ever, citizens in remote districts across Punjab will gain access to all-electric public transportation. Chief Minister of Punjab shared a video on her social media handles showing the electric buses being manufactured in China and announced the rollout of 1,100 EV buses, with the first 240 set to arrive on August 22, 2025.
These initial buses will be sent to over 24 underdeveloped districts that previously lacked organized public transportation, including places like Bahawalnagar, Attock, Gujrat, and Dera Ghazi Khan. Each of these buses will be air‑conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras for passenger safety, and feature built‑in wheelchair ramps to ensure accessibility for persons with disabilities. The fare is fixed at just Rs 20 per ride, making the service affordable for all residents. Following this batch, the remaining 600 buses are scheduled to arrive by December.
Punjab’s transport department is prioritizing this rollout to ensure that smaller and remote districts receive the same level of public services as larger urban centres. CM emphasized that “every district matters,” signalling an inclusive approach toward infrastructure development.
