Recently, the Gen Z Student Protests in India have ignited a debate in Pakistan about the state of student unions and rights.

“In a country where nearly 20 million children who should be in school are not, what kind of society are we creating?”

Senior journalist Mazhar Abbas posed this difficult question on Otherwise by Lahooti: Chapter Two.

Reflecting on the depoliticisation of student life in Pakistan, he spoke about how universities are increasingly discouraging critical thinking while divisive politics continues to thrive. Drawing from the student movements of the 1960s and examples from countries like Iran and Afghanistan, he reminded us that some of the most significant moments of resistance and social transformation have historically emerged from students.

If young people are no longer encouraged to question, organise, debate, and imagine different futures, what does that mean for the future of our society?

This song by Ustad Noor Bakhsh is going viral all over Sindh right now. Why does Ranga Machar Dosti make people dance?

This beloved Balochi folk song, popularized by the legendary Faiz Mohammad Baloch and carried into a new generation by Ustad Noor Bakhsh’s Benju, is more than a melody. It’s a lesson in discernment.

The song reminds us not to mistake beauty for loyalty because not every seemingly beautiful person is honest.

In this video, artist and cultural curator Pakkhee explores the meaning behind Ranga Machar Dosti, the enduring cultural relationship between Sindh and Balochistan, and why audiences across Sindh instinctively move to a song whose wisdom has lived in the region for generations through folklores like Sassui Punhu among others.
