A student studying in Russia says:
The highest score for most of the exams in Russia is 5.
If a student does not answer any question and returns back his exam paper blank, with no question answered, he gets 2 out of 5.

In my first days at the University of Moscow, I did not know about this system and I was surprised and asked Dr. Theodor Medraev: "Is this fair that a student did not answer any question and you give him 2 out of 5? Why not give him a zero ?
Isn't that the right way ?"

He answered:
"How can we give a Human Being a zero ?
How can we give him a zero to someone who was getting up at 7 am to attend all the lectures ?
How can we give him a zero since he got up in this cold weather, and used public transport and reached to do the exam in time, and tried to solve the questions ?
How can we give him a zero for the nights he used to study and spent his money on pens and notebooks and bought a computer for studying ?
How can we give him a zero when he left all other life styles and pursued his studies ?
Here my son, we do not give a zero to a student just because he did not know the answer.
We at least try to respect the fact that this is a Human Being, and he is having a brain, and he tried.
Because this result which we give, is not just for the questions in the exam paper, it is also about showing appreciation and respect to the fact that this is a Human Being and deserves to have a score."

Truly I cried and did not know how to respond.
There I knew my value as a Human Being.

Zeros can actually decrease motivation on students, and can quickly destroy them and make them stop caring about their studies altogether.
Once a zero score has been put in the grade book, they need no longer care about that subject and they may assume that, there’s nothing they can do about it.
Today I tell my story as a message to our teachers, so as to change this shabby system of education which we have in our country.

عنقریب تم ایک دن ایسی جگہ چلے جاؤ گے جہاں تم اپنے آپ کو تن تنہا پاؤ گے وہاں نہ تو تمہارے پاس تمہارے بیوی بچے ہونگے نہ دوست و احباب اور نہ عزیز و اقارب القاب و آداب کے سارے سابقے اور لاحقے جو تمہیں دنیا میں زیب و زینت بخشتے تھے سب ختم ہو جائیں گے اس وقت تم نہ عالی جناب رہو گے نہ شیخ کبیر اور نہ عالم جلیل یہاں تک کہ تم ایک عام طالب علم بھی نہیں رہو گے
وہاں تم سے چند معروف سوالات کیے جائیں گے اور تمہیں اپنے دل کے ثبات و استقامت کے مطابق ان سوالوں کا جواب دینا ہوگا

*Pakistan’s Existential Economic Crisis*

*There is a real danger that Pakistan could default on its debt, which could lead to intensifying political turmoil amid already surging terrorism*

Pakistan’s stability increasingly depends on the outcome of an ever-worsening economic crisis. Amid skyrocketing inflation, political conflict between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, and surging terrorism, the country is facing the risk of a default due to its massive external debt obligations. This burden has been exacerbated by the derailment of the $6.5 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program Pakistan entered in 2019, as the international lender is unsatisfied with Pakistan’s commitment to reform and ability to arrange for funds to meet external financing requirements. Troublingly, Pakistan’s official foreign exchange reserves are hovering around $4 billion, which is insufficient to finance even a one-month of the country’s import bill.

Can Pakistan recover from the economic abyss? To determine, it is important to consider: (1) the composition of Pakistan’s overall external debt; (2) repayment pressure on the debt in both the short- and medium-term; (3) potential inflows that can offset the debt outflows; and (4) Pakistan’s external debt management strategy.

*1. Pakistan’s Debt Composition — and the Terms on the Debt*

As of December 2022, Pakistan holds external debt and liabilities of $126.3 billion. Nearly 77% of this debt, amounting to $97.5 billion is directly owed by the government of Pakistan to various creditors; an additional $7.9 billion is owed by government-controlled public sector enterprises to multilateral creditors.

Who are these creditors? Pakistan’s creditors fall in four broad categories: multilateral debt, Paris Club debt, private and commercial loans, and Chinese debt.

A major share of Pakistan’s debt is owed to multilateral institutions, amounting to roughly $45 billion. I

انٹرنیٹ پر آپ کا رویہ شہد کی مکھی کی طرح ہونا چاہیئے، صرف عمدہ باتوں پر توجہ مرکوز کرو، خود بھی استفادہ کرو اور دوسروں کو بھی فائدہ پہنچاؤ۔ عام مکھی کی طرح ہر گندی اور صاف چیز پر مت بیٹھو، مبادا دوسروں تک بیماری کے جراثیم منتقل کرنے لگو اور تمہیں اس کا احساس ہی نہ ہو...

نشرو اشاعت میں بھی محتاط رہو، جن باتوں سے شریعت نے منع کیا ہے انہیں کاپی پیسٹ کرنے سے گریز کرو...یہ نیکیوں اور گناہوں کی تجارت ہے۔ تم کیا سودا بیچ رہے ہو اس پر تمہاری گہری نظر رہنی چاہیئے...

کسی تحریر پر کمنٹ یا اسے شیئر کرنے سے پہلے خوب اچھی طرح بار بار سوچ لیا کرو کہ یہ الله کی خوشنودی کا باعث ہے یا ناراضی کا...

ایسے شخص کی دوستی پر بھروسہ مت کرو جسے تم نے اپنی آنکھوں سے نہ دیکھا ہو، لوگوں کی تحریروں سے انہیں سمجھنے کی کوشش مت کرو...یہ دوست کے بھیس میں اجنبی ہیں، ان کی تصویروں میں ڈبنگ (جعلسازی) ہے، ان کا اخلاق وکردار مخفی ہے، ان کی گفتگو میں ملمع سازی ہے، ان کے چہروں پر ماسک (خ*ل) ہیں، یہ جھوٹ بھی ایسے بولتے ہیں کہ سچائی کا گمان ہوتا ہے...
بہت سے عقلمند دکھائی دینے والے در حقیقت بڑی حماقت میں مبتلا ہیں...
کتنے خوبصورت ایسے ہیں جو حقیقت میں بدصورت ترین ہیں...
بہت سے سخی نظر آنے والے ایسے ہیں جن کا شمار کنجوس ترین لوگوں میں ہوتا ہے...
بے شمار ایسے ہیں جو شجاعت کے وصف سے شہرت رکھتے ہیں مگر پرلے درجے کے بزدل ہیں...
سوائے ان کے جن پر الله کی رحمت ہو۔ (الله کرے تمہارا شمار بھی ان میں ہو...)

فرضی نام (فیک آئی ڈیز) رکھنے والوں سے بھی دور رہو۔ ایسے لوگ اعتماد سے عاری ہوتے ہیں، سو اس شخص پر کیونکر اعتماد کیا جائے جسے خود پر ہی اعتماد نہ ہو اور تم بھی فرضی نام اختیار مت کرنا، کیونکہ الله ہمارے لمحه لمحه کے ہر راز سے واقف ہے...

جو تمہارے ساتھ نامناسب رویہ اختیار کرے اس کے ساتھ ویسا ہی رویہ اختیار مت کرنا، تمہارا رویہ تمہاری اپنی شخصیت کا ہے اور اس کا کردار اپنی شخصیت کا آئینہ دار ہے...سو تم اپنے اخلاق کی نمائندگی کرو اس کے اخلاق کی نہیں...ظاہر ہے برتن سے وہی کچھ چھلکے گا جو اس کے اندر ہے...

کوئی چیز لکھنے سے پہلے ہزار بار سوچو، تم جب لکھتے ہو تو تمہارے فرشتے بھی لکھ رہے ہوتے ہیں، اور اس سارے عمل کی نگرانی براهِ راست الله تعالىٰ کرتے ہیں...

انٹرنیٹ کے بحرِ ظلمات میں جس چیز کا مجھے سب سے زیاده خطره ہے وه نظر کا غلط استعمال ہے یعنی ایسی تصویریں اور ویڈیو کلپس دیکھنا جن میں فسق و فجور اور الله کی نافرمانی ہو...اگر تم اپنے نفس کو ان محرمات سے دور رکھ سکو تو انٹرنیٹ اور سوشل میڈیا سے بھرپور استفاده کرنا اور اس سے دین کی نشرو اشاعت کا کام لینا، لیکن (الله نه کرے، الله محفوظ رکھے) اگر تمہارا نفس ان محرمات کے شکنجے میں پھنسا ہوا ہے تو انٹرنیٹ کی دنیا سے ایسے دور بھاگنا جیسے انسان وحشی درندے سے بھاگتا ہے، ورنہ روزِ محشر تمهارا سامنا الله سے ہوگا؛ پھر اسکی مرضی چاہے تو معاف کردے چاہے عذاب دے دے۔ (فَيَغْفِرُ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ)...

انٹرنیٹ غفلت اور شہوت کا ایک بڑا باعث ہے اور انہی دو چیزوں کے ذریعے شیطان نفس پر حاوی ہوتا ہے...دھیان رہے کہ انٹرنیٹ تمہارے فائدے کے لیئے ہے اس سے فائده اٹھاؤ، یہ غفلت کے لیئے نہیں کہ اسی کے ہو کر ره جاؤ، اس سے تعمیر شخصیت کا کام لو تخریب کا نہیں، نیز قیامت کے دن اسے اپنے حق میں گواه بناؤ نه که اپنے خلاف...!!!

How to deal with GK

It is the most awkward subject due to its unpredictability. It may surprise many on the day of exam, as it shocked many in the last two exams of PCS.

If I say it would be the subject you love the most, may be the aspirants would ridicule me yet honestly speaking it is a fantastic subject. It is a subject though tough to deal with yet it is one of the most interesting and entertaining subjects of all. It always keeps you in pursuit of new things.

1. I used to collect and write material/data/information of GK for about TWO n Half hours to THREE hours daily for FIVE days and then memorise the same on Saturday and Sunday.

2. I would used to start my GK work with the reading of (Ever latest book by Bhatti Publishers) for about half an hour and my main focused areas were personalities, terms, discoveries, inventions, A&Q from EDS, scientific units and miscellaneous section. Remember even last times about 30-35 marks have been covered by Everlatest. So, it is erroneous to believe that last year in the GK paper there was nothing from this book. As I have said it is sine qua non.

3. Wikipedia is the best weapon to fight the malicious threats of GK. How to operate it, I used to read the feature article on the front page (as you open it you ll find the front page article. Read the article carefully and write down the information in your register. Then click on ONGOING (Recent events) . It provides you with plethora of information n happening around the world reported by major media outlets of the world. Note these again in your register and learn well on the last two days of the Week.

4. Read the Dawn, just the front and back pages for National and International news. Similarly read editorials n op-ed page and draw out the necessary facts and figures.

5. Read one or two articles from Jahangir World Times a Week and make gist and notes of the same.

6. Read daily one page from 10000 GK/5000 GK Remember in these questions you have to skip questions which are irrelevant.

7. Solve MCQs on various ICS and NTS, PakMCQs and other website la occasionally and similarly write down those information/questions which are out of your scope.

8. Monthly JWTs, The Monthly Press Review (a Defence Magazine), The Economist and monthly Akhtar-e-Jahan are the literature that would provide almost all areas covered. These material would not help you in GK but are also extremely beneficial for subjects like English, Pakistan Studies, Islamiate, IR, Journalism, Geography, Economics, Sociology, Urdu and many other subjects.

8. Last, you must be looking at everything at examination point of view. Never leave anything which comes to you without putting it to the Google baba for knowing, what actually it is. It is the best thing to verify things which are doubtful. Make habit of surfing Google and making notes of it.

It was my modus operandi and believe me, I enjoyed whole exam in general but GK in particular and the material and Ideas mentioned may be cumbersome initially but as you are getting habitual of it you would definitely harvest rich dividends. In Sha Allah.
