Inboxed Msg: "Today, I had an extremely distressing & unacceptable experience at during a neurology consultation with Dr. Akbar Ali Khan. My sister, who is already struggling with health issues, had an appointment originally scheduled with Prof. Dr. Khaleeq-uz-Zaman. However, due to his leave, we were referred to Dr. Akbar.
Despite his OPD timing being 11:00AM, Dr. Akbar did not arrive until 2:30PM. Patients, including us, were left waiting for hours without any communication, explanation, or apology.
When our turn finally came, I respectfully handed him my sister’s previous prescription from Dr. Khaleeq to help him understand her medical history. Shockingly, Dr. Akbar looked at it with disdain, tore it up, & made an extremely vulgar and defamatory remark about Dr. Khaleeq, a senior and respected medical professional, said: “Dr. Khaleeq uses his wife for sexual purposes. Ye tu chaprasi.” I was appalled by his language & asked him to maintain decorum and show respect. Instead, he became aggressive, stood up, & began shouting.
He threatened me, saying, “You don’t know who I'm. I'm a badmash. I can make you disappear. I have a licensed weapon & I will use it.” This was not only verbal abuse but a direct and terrifying threat made inside a consultation room. My sister, already in a fragile state, was visibly shaken & traumatized.
There was no hospital staff or security personnel present to defuse the situation or ensure our safety. We had no choice but to leave, humiliated, disturbed, & deeply concerned for our well-being.
Such behavior is not only shockingly unprofessional but poses a serious risk to patient safety. A doctor entrusted with people’s health must act with compassion, patience, & respect not violence, abuse, or threats.
I urge Hospital to take immediate & transparent disciplinary action against Dr. Akbar Ali Khan. If no action is taken, I will pursue all legal options available. As a journalist & citizen, I believe we have a moral responsibility to speak out against such misconduct. Silence only protects those who abuse their position. We must ensure our hospitals remain places of healing not fear".
