Hello ... My Name is Talha shahid From pakistan
I am a professional graphic designer and have 7 years of working experience in Graphic Designing.
When describing pictures like a pro for speaking exams in English, there are several tips you can follow to enhance your skills. Here are some suggestions:
01 Start with an overview: Begin by giving a brief overview of the picture, mentioning the main subject, setting, and any notable details. This sets the context for your description.
Example: "In this picture, I can see a vibrant cityscape at night with tall skyscrapers and colorful lights illuminating the streets."
Use present tense and specific vocabulary: Describe the picture using present tense to create a sense of immediacy. Incorporate rich and precise vocabulary to make your description more vivid and engaging.
Example: "The bustling streets are teeming with pedestrians and cars. The towering buildings are adorned with neon signs, casting a warm glow across the scene."
02 Focus on details: Pay attention to specific elements within the picture and describe them in detail. Mention colors, shapes, sizes, positions, and any other notable characteristics.
Example: "In the foreground, there is a red double-decker bus passing by, adding a vibrant splash of color to the otherwise dark surroundings. The bus is filled with passengers, and I can see their silhouettes through the windows."
Express opinions and emotions: Share your thoughts and emotions about the picture to make your description more personal and engaging. Use adjectives and adverbs to convey your feelings effectively.
Example: "The picture evokes a sense of excitement and liveliness. The city appears dynamic and full of energy, making me feel thrilled to be a part of such a vibrant environment."
03 Organize your description: Structure your description in a logical and coherent manner. You can start from the background and move towards the foreground or follow any other systematic approach that makes sense.
Example: "Starting from the background, there is a river reflecting the city lights, creating a mesmerizing mirror effect. Moving towards the middle ground, I notice a row of shops and restaurants, their windows aglow with enticing displays. Finally, in the foreground, there are people walking briskly, seemingly immersed in their own worlds."
04 Practice using different tenses: In addition to the present tense, practice using other tenses, such as past and future, to describe actions or events that occurred before or may happen after the depicted scene.
Example: "Looking closely, I can see a couple enjoying a romantic dinner by a candlelit table outside a restaurant. It seems like they had a wonderful evening together."
Use linking words: Incorporate linking words and phrases to create a smooth and coherent flow between sentences and ideas. This helps connect different aspects of the picture and makes your description more cohesive.
Example: "Furthermore, on the right side of the picture, there is a large fountain, its water cascading down in an elegant display. Additionally, in the distance, I can spot a Ferris wheel, suggesting that there might be an amusement park nearby."
Remember, the key to becoming proficient at describing pictures is practice. Take time to observe and describe various images, and seek feedback from others to improve your skills.
