Trump Claims Credit for India-Pakistan Ceasefire, India Denies
US President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for brokering peace between India and Pakistan following their May military clash.
Trump said he threatened Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with crippling trade tariffs, and within five hours both nuclear powers agreed to a ceasefire. He also boasted that he has “stopped seven wars worldwide using tariffs as leverage.”
India, however, has categorically rejected Trump’s version of events, stating that the ceasefire was achieved through direct military talks under Operation Sindoor, with no third-party involvement.
Trump has repeated his mediation claim more than 40 times since May, despite India’s consistent denials.
In his remarks, Trump said:
> “I said, I don’t want to make a trade deal with you (PM Modi)... You guys are going to end up in a nuclear war... I said, call me back tomorrow, but we’re not going to do any deals with you, or we’re going to put tariffs on you that are so high, your head’s going to spin.”
The controversy underscores rising tensions between Trump’s foreign policy narrative and India’s rejection of external mediation in South Asia.
